She works from home and she is going through a divroce right now. It is just her and her 15 month old son who live there and he is at daycare right now. She said she was working on her computer when a cell phone started ringing upstairs in her house. Her phone was right next to her and she has no other phone. Just a Blackberry which isnt charged and was laying on the floor. She said it rang twice and she was freaking out. I told her to go outside and go to her neighbors house - who is an ex-marine - and get them to go back with her. I have no idea why a cell phone would be in her house. I am a little freaked out myself right now. I am waiting for her to call me back.

omg how scary, I hope everything is ok. Maybe soon to be ex DH has a secret cell phone hidden somewhere?

Wow, let us know if you hear something back from her. That would scare me also.

That would be scary. I honestly would not go back without the police checking it out first.

I am kind of thinking the same thing right now. I told her to leave the house - better safe than sorry - and not to go back alone.

Her husband has been gone for over 2 months, too. Even if he did leave a phone there - which I dont think he did - it would be dead by now or she would have heard it already.

Just a tip- the blackberries do give off a ring when they are losing their charge I believe. But I agree that better safe than sorry. Please let us know how it goes.

I was thinking it could be the Blackberry or possibly a smoke-detector(something like that), that's losing its charge.

Hope everything's ok.
agnes!

Any word? We are waiting anxiously.

I'm hoping it was something silly but come on OP come back and give us an update

It would scare me if I heard a phone ringing and I knew it wasn't mine. Hope the OP's sister is OK.

Okay guys - I am officially freaked out now. Her neighbor came - with a baseball bat...ha....and there was a phone at the top of her stairs. That she has never seen before. It has two bars on it. My sister went upstairs last night and that phone was not there - she swears it wasnt. Her neighbor went to go buy new locks and is changing them for her. Something is going on.

If she doesn't have an alarm system, I'd look into getting one ASAP. And stay in a hotel until it was installed! Especially with a 15 month old involved.

If I heard that, I'd leave the house, call 911 and tell them that I think there may be somebody in my house (explaining the cell phone ring). I would however wait for the police in a spot where I could see anyone exiting the house (maybe in my car). When the cops arrive I'd scour the house until I found the phone.

Is it possible her DS picked it up somewhere? Honestly all the toddlers I know are "bad" with cell phones. As in they always want them and grab for them. One just snuck my cell phone out of my purse this morning and I wouldn't have known if I hadn't gotten a text.

I do hope it is something as simple as that though. I'd be checking out the cell phone as well to see if I could figure out who it belonged to.

that is great that her neighbor is changing the locks, but I am thinking she should probably give the police a call. I also agree with Patsmom on getting an alarm system.

Look in the phone book on that phone and see if any numbers are familiar. Check to see what the incoming call was (that caused it to ring in the first place). Check all incoming/outgoing numbers from that phoen.

Oh yeah...and get the cops over pronto!

Bizare!! If I were her I would be checking out all the phone numbers on the cell.
