She is joining us on our NYC cruise in November. I called her the other day to discuss her paying off her balance by a certain date so we can all book excursions together.

She asked me if there was skeet shooting. I told her no, but then realized maybe she meant shuffleboard. So I said they had shuffleboard on deck 4. She said No, skeet shooting.

WTH?? Where did get the idea that ANY cruise line would give people a gun to shoot at flying discs off the back of the ship, least of all DISNEY!

Oh my..this is going to be an adventure with her. LOL

LOL...first time I've heard of that....

Not sure Disney would be in favour of that...lol

I believe there are some luxury cruise lines (smaller ships) that offer skeet shooting. Perhaps she has seen one of their brochures sometime over the years? Who knows? :D

This was very common in the cruise industry in the 70’s and 80’s and maybe even the 90’s. She’s not as crazy as you think. There are episodes of The Love Boat that shows them doing that.

I'm glad you posted that as my first thought was, didn't they do that on the Love Boat? Then I thought maybe I was crazy. :rotfl:

... but... but... but doesn't that sound like FUN?! :-p

My dad loved skeet shooting on Cunard lines and Holland American back in the 1980's. Plus hitting golf balls into the ocean. For us kids - we always used to put a message in a bottle and thtow overboard hoping someone far away would mail us a letter saying they got our message. Also, when the ship was sailing away on the first day we would send streamers of paper and confetti overboard in celebration. It is amazing the ocean is as clean as it is today - what we were thinking?? :)

I never would have guessed. It sounds like fun though!
I've done it before but the old fashioned way--on land.

It definitely sounds like a blast and likely requires some skill as the ship is moving. I agree with dvcdisney that Disney would never go for it, but why not a VR experience? Maybe other cruise lines will bring it back as long as it doesn't wake anybody up or frighten the kiddos.

"so how was your cruise vacation?"

"oh just great...we heard gunshots while at sea"

"oh no...pirates?" pirate:

"No...just guests skeet shooting off the stern of the ship"
:rotfl2:

Yes, in the mid-late 80's on RCCL there was skeet shooting. DH did it on our honeymoon. People were also able to come on-board with you until it was time to sail and then they had to leave. We also threw streamers overboard when we left port in Miami.
Oh man, I remember that now - we would be in port with other ships and my dad and Mom would always want to tour the other cruise ships / so we would just go ask and board them and tour while we were docked. Plus our family and friends would stay with us on board till our cruise departed - man have times changed!

I was talking to a co-worker whose wife wanted to book a cruise. He knew I liked cruising so he wanted to find out from me what activities they had on board. He asked about skeet shooting and wanted to know if you hit golf balls off the ship. I almost wanted to laugh at first but quickly remembered that these things were popular some time ago. He also asked about jet skis and he didn't mean during a shore excursion. I can just imagine, a massive cruise ship renting out jet skis on sea days. THAT doesn't sound like a disaster waiting to happen.
