with her husband and ds who will just have turned 3.

She doesn't use a stroller for her son, instead she puts him on one of those "leashes". (there may be a better word for them).

I'm not sure, but common sense tells me they may not be acceptable at the parks.

Not sure where to find this information.

Does anyone know if they are acceptable? We have never used that method of child control, and I don't recall ever seeing one in a park, but maybe I just never noticed?

Thanks!

Uh-oh - another "leash" thread. This is a hot topic on these boards. Yes they are allowed. We used one for my son this past vacation. No problems with him as long as we let him on the grass from time to time and gave him treats. :)

Seriously though - my son was very good on it. We used a harness type and also one that went around his wrist.

I don't want to start a debate, I was just wondering if they can be used. I know they are controversial.

Like I said we have never used one, never entered my mind to use one.

But I do know they are used by others, to each his own.

Thanks for letting me know they can be used.

We saw a bunch of kids with a monkey on their back...thought that was a cute idea. A few "leashes" too. If that is what they feel comfortable with and ther DS is used to wearing on go for it. Now if it a a dog collar and leash...you may get some stares.:lmao:

I am not going to weigh in on the leash issue, but I will make 2 suggestions.

1) If the child is just 3 he will probably need a stroller. It is a lot of walking.

2) If you choose to use a leash you should never use one that attaches to the child's wrist. It is very easy to dislocate a child's elbow by pulling on it (it's known as "nursemaid's elbow') Although this injury is quickly and easily repaired it is very painful for the child. If you use a leash, use the kind that fits as a backpack or harness.

I agree that harness or not, the child is going to need a stroller for when she tires out. Let SIL know that the stroller isn't for confining the child, it's for when the baby is exhausted and needs a break. If she doesn't use one she's going to get awfully tired herself carrying that baby everywhere she goes. :)

We use the harness-type. It comes in really handy when curious toddlers want to escape from the stroller. I must agree with those posting before me, that whether or not she uses a harness, a 3 year old is still going to need a stroller.

:thumbsup2

We used a harness with our 2 year old DS. He did not want to be in the stroller at all. He walk all day! He even walked all over AK. We were shocked. We brought the stroller each day. My 8 year old DD used it more than him and she begged us to push her around the park. But at around 5 p.m.our DS would look at us and than climb into the stroller and go to sleep and he would be out for a couple of hours. She really should bring a stroller for those late days in the park and for the night. I have seen that some of the stores are now selling strollers so if she changes her mind while there she can buy one.
