If this has become common, I guess I missed the memo! I was on a waitlist for a HA BW view 1 bedroom Dec. 3 - 5. I had 2 reservations in place already, one for Dec. 5 - 12 and another for Dec. 12 - 14, both for HA BW view 1 bedrooms. I made both reservations myself online and planned at some point to call MS to have the reservations linked. Today I got an email that said I now have 1 single reservation from Dec. 3 - 14. Wow. I am pretty impressed. I have been critical of Disney IT because I was one whose DVC and MDE accounts had been messed up the past few days. But I will take my hat off to the way the system worked this time!
Kudos also are in order for adding a sign out link to the top of the search results page when booking. In the past you would have to go back to the initial search page to sign out.

I think linking is automatic now, if the reservations are for the same guests, room type, resort and booking category, and if the points are from the DVC account. Part of the system upgrade a little while ago that uses "travel plans" and reservation numbers.

Well I am ashamed that I have somehow not been reading carefully. I visit these boards daily and this fact went right over my head. I guess that it has been so long since I had to do a linked reservation that I have not been paying attention. Thanks, Chuck!

Just so I understand, do you still have three reservations each with their own reservation number that have been linked together in the computer system so they are treated as one continuous reservation? Or are you saying they combined the three reservations into one reservation with one reservation number?

From the wording in your original post it sounds like they combined them rather than linking them. That is what they did in my case. I grabbed an extra night online and called MS to have that new 1-night reservation linked with my existing reservation. Instead, the MS CM cancelled my 1-night reservation and added that night to my existing reservation. I ended up with one reservation, one reservation number, no linking. It turned out to be a good thing since those with linked reservations are having to check out and check in again on their transition day.

I for one used to confuse linking with combining. It's a symantics thing. I see how they how separate. Combining sounds more appropriate here.

Poor use of words on my part. I now have one reservation number for all 11 nights. They are combined, I guess, not linked. So it sounds like this is done electronically without human intervention? Or was it a case of a CM noticing the consecutive reservations when my wait list cleared and the CM then combined all 3 pieces into one?

I'm guessing it happened as a result of your waitlist coming through. The CM that processed the waitlist took the two reservations you already had, cancelled one of them and added those nights plus the waitlisted nights to the remaining reservation. Next time you log in to the members' website, see if your activity history shows a cancelled reservation and then a modification to the other reservation.

I'm glad to hear you do not have linked reservations. People are reporting that they have to check out and check back in again when they transition from one reservation to the next when their reservations are linked. I think that's how it used to work, then they fixed it, now it's "unfixed".

I had the same thing happen to me. Had 2/26 & 2/27 booked and 2/24 & 2/25 wait listed---wait list came thru. When I was notified (yes, I got an email) there were 2 reservations of 2 days each. A couple of days later when I signed in they had been combined to one reservation. Was later able to book 2/28 online separate reservation. I had to call to get this day combined to the other 4 days.

As usual, Lisa, you are right. Activity shows cancellation and modification. I assume that the computers need a human to do this, that there is not a program sophisticated enough to do this on its own.

This raises some important questions, e.g. if you signed up for (and paid for) a dining plan on only one of your reservations, do you now have the dining plan on all of the combined reservation? And do you owe payment in advance for it?

I am so happy for you!

And I love the new sign out option, too!

Just curious, when I called awhile back about combining my reservations ( I picked up another day on line) , I was told they would note it on the computer that it is linked but i would still have two ressie numbers. Is this right? In the past they have just combined it or me We leave next week and don't want to ave to check out and back in if I don't need two. But I also don't want to risk them goofing up or losing any days if I call.

Thanks!

It would be possible to write a program to do this but I suspect it was done manually by the CM processing your wait list who noticed your other reservation. If not for the wait list coming through those two reservations would most likely have remained separate until you called MS.

It's hard to keep up on how things work since things change with each system upgrade! The last time I had a wait list come through (over a year ago), MS created a second reservation and linked it to my existing reservation. I did not have to check out and check in, everything worked as if it was one reservation. But in some other threads people have been reporting that for several months now linked reservations no longer work that way so perhaps this is why MS is combining reservations where possible (when both reservations are under the same membership).

I just called again and combined, so all is good!!

I think that if you booked one stay with the dining plan, then booked same place, same type of room, but withOUT the dining plan, they would NOT be considered the same type of reservation, and I bet they would not be combined. My understanding is that it has to be the exact same sort of stay for this to happen.

I remember being told that rooms in high demand could be snapped up by someone else whilst changes were being made and that CMs couldn't "hold" them whilst processing. I presume that this has now been changed if it looks like the combining is been done by a human.

It all sounds good to me, it always seemed such a simple idea to merge several bookings in to one reservation and I could never understand how Disneys IT made it so complicated!

It looks like you may have received the room I canceled. We changed from that week to the following week. didn't get Boardwalk View but still very happy I got that following week. I was a nervous wreck(LOL) canceling that week and hoping the next week wouldn't disapear on me. H/C rooms seem hard to come by at BWV if you wait to long. I just added on points for BWV a couple months ago. My favorite place to stay. Susan

If you canceled a HA BW view for Dec. 3 and 4, then yes I got your room and thanks! There is only one HA BW view room, a 2 bedroom lock off, so if someone books a 2 bedroom then there are no BW view HA studios or 1 bedrooms to book. I really had very little hope and was so surprised when our waitlist cleared. Have a great trip!

Yep we had a Boardwalk View for Dec. 1st to 5th. Changed to 9th-13th
