My Publix has a coin counting Machine!

Used it today for the first time, and got $11.52 from a small baggie of pennies! It takes 8% of the total, but, hey who cares!

Last year when we did our change it was about 200 dollars and took almost 20 dollars..
20 bucks is 8mickey Ice Creams
20 bucks is a Buffet meal
20 bucks is about 3 pins..

I know Im insane but thats how I judge spending my money now on things..

My bank does it for free, they prefer loose coins.

If for some reason your bank won't count them and you don't have time to roll all of your coins try to pull out quarters and above using the supermarket machine for pennies, nickels and dimes.

I purchased a coin rolling machine for about $30. It is simple to use and has paid for itself in no time. Giving up 8% is a lot.

My local grocery store has had one of those for a long time. I use it for pennys and nickels. I save dimes for my parking at work ($6.20 a day). I always manage to use my quarters.

The bank I work for will count coins for free, as long as they are seperated by denomination. Food for thought, for the next stash of coin you save for your next WDW trip

I work at Bank One and we'll take your coin rolled, loose, however. This may very from location to location, but give them a call before you lose 8% to a machine. Our location would take coin from Disney Visa cardholders, even without a checking/savings account. Just an FYI.

Mine has one of those new fangled cira 1987 machines that separate them as they are counted.

i bought a coin counter thing at the dollar store some time ago. It has plastic tubes that you just sperate your coins into. When the tube is filled, its a roll of coins. You just place a wrapper over it and slide the coins in. It works great!

I'm with you on this! I just had my change counted at my bank. They do it for free. I had $255. Doing it in a Coinstar would have cost me $20!

And that was just 3 months of coins. A year's worth would end up costing me $80. That's the equivalent of one night in a value resort during the off season!

Like you, I always extrapolate my figures out to see what something costs me over time. It keeps me motivated to save.

This is one of those "to each thier own" things. I, like Poohbear, prefer to go to the machine. I see the sense in going to the bank but I like the convenience of the machine.

Got 10.52 back! My DH took a bag full of Pennies and cased in 40.00 worth...just in Pennies! Just so happens I work at this Publix, so I get to cash in every day...the coins were just sitting there, waiting to be taken to the Credit Union that does them for free, for 4 years!!! Now, I am CASHING IN!!!

Publix is 6 blocks from my house, and I work there 5 days out of the week, so its great for me.

Commerce bank has a wonderful coin machine where you just dump them in , the machine presorts them, and viola you're done.

Then you print the receipt, and then take it to the counter.

No percentage fees or anything like that.

I also use the tube savers for the coins. The marks on the tube indicate how much you have saved. When I get $10 in quarters, I just put them right into a wrapper and into the Disney bank account they go! The kids and I keep a separate passbook savings account just for our trips. I'd rather get 2% than pay the 7% our store charges for counting coins. Every penny counts to me.
