DIL and DS's baby girl is due 3/20 but a week ago the doc said it could be within a week. So exciting! :goodvibes

But, here we are a week later and no baby.

She is "nesting" and has had ds rearrange all the furniture, put together the bassinett, washed and folded clothes, and just asked me to store some things for them.

Mostly though she just looks miserable!! She waddles. and she sighs a lot. and she has to take a lot of breaks. And I feel awful for her! I remember the "waiting" and its the worst part of the pregnancy!

My oldest was 4 weeks early so I didn't have that last minute waiting for a baby and with my youngest I was busy taking classes to get my director's license (took my final exam the day before she was born!) so didn't realize the time. BUT, with the father of this baby on the way--OMG!! The doc thought he would come early but he was a week late.

I was miserable. I cleaned for three weeks solid, I walked every day. And at every pain I thought I was going in labor. Finally my then dh and some friends talked me into going out dancing. The next morning at 5AM, I woke up in labor!!

I am trying to convince ds to take her dancing.

Poor Girl! I pray she has a healthy and safe delivery and that however long is left passes quickly. That last few weeks is brutal!

Poor thing, she will probably be mentally exhausted by the time baby arrives. My 1st was 14 days late, and I was huge, large baby on my tiny frame, I was more than miserable, I was mentally and physically exhausted.

I hope the baby comes soon :goodvibes

Thanks to you both!

She finally quit work for awhile (she is a waitress so finally her boss said "GO HOME!" luckily they love her as much as we do and were looking out for her) so she is able to take naps every day. She stays with my mom during the day while ds is at work so mom helps her with dgd and she is able to sit with her feet up a lot.

I had forgotten how the coming of the baby sort of takes over your life! I keep saying, "if we are not at the hospital on Saturday, we will go. . . " Everything is planned with the hospital at the back of our minds.

Oh, I know what you mean! We just went through this with our daughter and son-in-law. Her due date was February 10th, but that day came and went...and the next day and the next day...

My husband and I were on constant alert because the plan was for them to call us as soon as they were leaving for the hospital. We would meet them and take our two-year old grandson home with us. Everywhere we went, we made sure to keep our cellphones on, and at night I made sure my phone was on and right beside me on the nightstand.

One night, we had to attend a dance performance that our younger daughter was in. I wasn't about to turn off my cell, so I put it on silent and kept it in my hand. I even explained to the woman beside me that I had to be sure I could hear my phone because our daughter was due any day and we might have to leave the theatre. She said she was a grandma and totally understood!:rotfl:

Our granddaughter finally arrived eight days past her due date! But, for those eight days, everything was prefaced with "if they call us today" or "if we have Carter tomorrow"... :)

Sending good thoughts and best wishes to your family! It won't be long before that precious little one is here!!

Ohhh I totally understand! I was on edge, waiting for DS from 36 weeks on. I was gigantic and miserable. Turned out that he was a few ounces short of 10 lbs.!

I hope your grandbaby arrives safely and soon!

Thanks so much for the good wishes and thoughts! My dil isn't one to worry normally about "Is my baby ok" but all those late night worries are really flooding her now.

I know what you mean about the cell phone. I normally turn mine off or just leave it in the car during church. This past Sunday I put it on silent and left it right beside me. DS accidently called me!! Dd and I both jumped and grabbed the phone! And there I was at 47 years old: texting in church!! :scared1: But he had just called the wrong number.

I had to explain all this to our preacher after church. He thought it was quite funny but understood completely.

I delivered my first 2 weeks late. I went in to be induced 12 days overdue, and it failed, and I went home. I thought I was uncomfortable, but I was in serious misery with my twins at the end - almost 14 pounds of baby in me! Plus the extra fluids. After my c/s, I had never enjoyed the ability to breathe so much before!

I wish dr's wouldn't say that--they are never right :lmao:

Poor thing. I went into pre-term labor with our first, 6 weeks early. They stopped it and sent me home. I had regular contractions, 5 minutes apart off and on for the next 6 weeks. We went into the hospital two other times with the medical staff saying I was in labor, just not strong enough yet and got sent home (contractions on the monitor at 4-5 minutes apart) only to have them stop. DS was due on the 7th, he was born on the 14th. When I finally DID go into "real" labor the dr asked me if I knew when I should go in. I said NO. She said, well, you will know :lmao:.

The WORST was everyone calling to see if we were in the hospital. STOP CALLING. It has to be even worse now with texting and cell phones.

Docs should NEVER say anything remotely like that.... we all know you can walk around 2 cm dilated for a month.

Hope she goes soon!!

No kidding! I did 4cm for a month...and I was convinced DD was just going to fall out and I wouldn't notice. :rotfl:

OP, I hope your DIL gets some relief soon. I remember those last few weeks and how miserable it was. Everything took twice as long and was twice as hard, due to being so big. At least she'll have a bit of time to just put her feet up and relax, without having to worry about waitressing.

As for that doctor? :headache:

Oh, I know! I wish the dr. would have just kept his big mouth shut and then she would be continuing on as usual and not even thinking about it. :headache:

Bless her heart, though, she just seems to be so very uncomfortable!

And, pp, you are so right about the calling! I have been very careful to talk to her every day but not really ask. Her mother calls every day and says, "are we going to the hospital yet?" Every day, same words. Ds said if either the baby didn't come on or she didn't quit calling, he was changing their number. I told him he couldn't do that.

Tell your ds to take her out for Mexican, then dancing and then to 'enjoy themselves' a LOT afterwards...those are all surefire methods for getting labor moving! :goodvibes

Hoping for a fast, easy, pain-free delivery for your DIL! Congrats grandma!

Awww, I hope all goes well. The good news is all babies eventually make their appearance:goodvibes All pink and squishy with that baby smell and the newborn cry... love them all!

My friend was given an rx for 'quality time' with her DH, 2-3 times a day by her doctor when she was overdue. She was mortified b/c her mother kept pushing them towards the bedroom, saying they needed a nap! :rotfl:

5 of my 7 children were born late..as in AT LEAST 2 weeks. I feel so badly for your dil, that is the worst waiting EVER! The only silver lining is its not July! I had 2 of those and just wanted to die. I could never get cool enough.

My last ds was due on April 2 and arrived on March 19. I was totally unprepared. Totally. I figured I would see him sometime around the middle of April and did not even have the crib up yet. His dad was away from home working. I worked all day..and of course, it was one of those days of endless meetings. I thought I was crampy from sitting on my big behind all day! I got home around 6 and laid down for a few thinking I would feel better if I just laid down.

He was born at 11:38 that night...with just me in attendance and his brothers and sisters staying with my next door neighbor until my mom could get there.

I hope your little one is here soon! Congratulations on the new addition..when they decide to get here!

HAHA I don't think it can possibly get more awkward!! :lmao: Even worse, it didn't even work. I never dialated! I was not dialated or effaced in the least when I went in for my c-section.
