Walt Disney made marketing opportunities look like special occasions. The current "powers that be" at Disney make special occasions look like marketing opportunities. Disney needs to go back to making television specials that are.......well......special.

I totally agree...you can show off the parks while featuring a parade, without making it obvious that you are trying to sell vacations. That's what the commercial breaks are for.

I couldn't agree more.
It was a two hour commercial with a little music thrown in

True. It isn't even really a parade. Not even presented as such any more. They have multiple stages, an Main St. is just one of the stages where they use the floats. The talent rarely moves.

I thought that Nick Canon was especially bad. I almost felt sorry for him.

I'm watching it now... and I'm about to make it a less than an hour show... cause I'm obviously not the demographic that watches the Disney Channel... I don't know who half of these performers are... :scared1::scared1::scared1:

& I never thought I'd say this... but I miss Kelly Ripa...

It was very disapointing. It was a 2 hour infomercial. It wasn't a parade at all.

I agree it was horrible, it was annoying, and we just got back from WDW on 12/19. The commercial aspect was embarrassing and aggravating. Even my kids were asking why the only showed the characters for a few seconds. Disney really needs to go back to "giving" people something special, ie a Christmas parade, not cramming something down our throats. I think Disney did fine for years with just giving glimpses behind the curtain and plenty of people went to see what it was all about. Now it is just blatant greed! :confused3

I did like Statler and Waldorf...

& Jennifer Hudson's come a LONG way from singing on the Wonder...

Worst "parade" ever. The kids want to see the characters! I don't mind some advertising, but they sure could have made it more subtle. It really was a 2 hour infommercial. Last year's was too, but I didn't feel like they were hitting me over the head with it. Disney World and Land can hold up on their own without all the obvious marketing.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I enjoyed watch the special. It is a tradition in our family so that could be why. I do agree that it advertised quite a bit, but it always has; I'm not sure if there was more this year than in years past. With that being said, I had a great time seeing both WDW and DL.

The parks sell themselves.

I liked it when they showed the parade and then random shots around the parks... they could do that with both parks - show Epcot with the countries decorated... show some of the Candlelight processional... or the resort decorations..

better yet... don't show it ALL.. we'd like to save on some crowds... :rotfl:

Did anyone else find One Republic and Cee-lo to be really bad? I felt like they were both off key for a significant portion of their performances.

We were really disappointed in the parade, too. I wanted to see the floats, but they would glance at them for a couple of seconds then go right back to selling.

We DVRed the parade, and each time a "real" commercial came on, DH would tell me to fast forward through the commercial so we could get back to watching the commercial. :sad2: It was sad.

Well said. I was just happy to see both parks and the faces on the kids watching!
