So, as it turns out, I am not a lazy Mom and housekeeper, I am a GREAT Mom

We do travel with Clorox wipes when we go to Disney World, mostly because I've read too many stories here of folks who spent part of their trip vomiting in their hotel room. I'm immunocompromised, but I don't do that kind of cleaning regularly at home--just at Disney, because so many people use the rooms and also because we spend so much money on the trip I'd hate to have it ruined by picking up a norovirus.

Observation; after reading most of the posts, I notice that most of the posters that "does not do anything" seem to characterize the posters that "do clean" as "germaphobes", scared or even causing our kids anxiety.
We never did any type of wiping until we had a couple of trips that one of us got the nasty stomach virus and so now we do. Our family is none of those "labels", but also we do not feel that taking a minute (not excessive) to wipe down is not a hassle and that it cannot hurt and if it helps, great. We go camping so yes we have eaten plenty of dirt, but I think dirt is cleaner then some of the bacteria found at a hotel or amusement park

Do any of you bring stuff to clean your own room upon check-in? Something such as lysol, clorox wipes, etc? If you bring lysol, how to do you pack it? I believe you cannot pack aerosol in checked bags and it is too large for a carry on.

Yes I do, I am a germ freak, I use to wipe public toilets before my son used them but he is 8 now and well I can't go in the men's restrooms lol. I wipe trays on the airplane, arm rests. Anything my kid touches I wipe with Clorox before he does a

A TV show (I think 20/20) did a segment on bacteria at a hotel and amusement park, taking samples from stuff in the room as well as at the park, ride bars, etc. The remote was highest in the room and for the parks it was the food tray.

I have never felt the need to clean a hotel room, I figure as soon as you get outside you will pick up germs on rides, tables, doorhandles etc that are beyond anything you will find in the room.

Agreed. I am the furthest thing from a germaphobe but there were a few times last week that even I was grossed out by things my kids touched and then immediately picked up food and put it in their mouth (like running their hand along a handrail and then grabbing a granola bar to eat). Gag. I kept saying "Seriously, people, this is not just local germs now. This is international germs all swirling around in one place. God only knows what you have touched today!" But in my room? Eh. Compared to how many people had their hands on the same lap bar on Mine Train, hardly anyone's been in our room. So I totally don't even think about the room germs.

Preach! This is totally my parenting style and my kiddos never get sick. At one point my pediatrician's wife (his secretary) actually yelled at me for never needing sick visits. They weren't making any money on us. ugh... sorry?!?

Sounds like a good reason not to watch TV on vacation to me. Glad we don't.

I take Chlorox disinfectant wipes.

I also bring a separate zip lock bag and place TV remote in it.

I wipe down the remote, door nobs, alarm clock, dresser drawers and nobs. And anything else like that. If there is a table top, I'll wipe that down, too.

But I take many drugs that suppress my immune system. So, I also take great care to watch what I touch when I am at the parks. And I wash my hands, every chance I get.

I travel quite a bit for work and fun, and have taken one Immunosuppressive drug or another for the past ~30 years, and I still don't do anything additional to the room as far as cleaning, and I do not travel with cleaning supplies of any kind. I wash my hands frequently, and I am vigilant about keeping my hands away from my face and that's it.

LOL! My husband is a farmboy so we have been exposed to plenty of "dirt" too! I think ther ecan be a middle ground for folks, and I think I fall into that area. My family does not "clean" but a simple wipedown of surfaces that if I gave too much thought to what might have been there just before I touched them would make me cringe just takes a moment. I figure if it makes me feel more comfortable it is a win for my family.

I realized a long time ago that trying to keep my kid from not touching germy surfaces and then subsequently not putting his hands on his face/in his mouth is like trying to stop water from flowing. So I don't even try beyond a perfunctory, "Don't do that; that's gross."

I do feel bad for you folks who have compromised systems (or have children who do). We went to a small amusement park with a friend whose son has severe allergies and as her son boarded each ride, even when she wasn't riding, she'd run to the seat he was going to get in and do a quick wipe with Clorox wipes over all the surfaces. That must be exhausting.

We have a DD who is prone to catching bugs very easily. We definitely travel with clorox wipes, baby wipes and LOTS of sanitizer. I ALWAYS wipe down the remote in our hotel room as well as wipe down counters and toilet seats, as well as tables at QS restaurants. I have not wiped down rides but we always sanitize after. There is also OCD in my family but in our case, its for good reason !

I don't have allergies to that level, so my body touching something, isn't a problem. I don't wipe down anything at the park. (Okay, I do wipe down stuff in the bathroom.)

It is just in our room, so I can relax while I am there.

It is now second nature. I don't even think about it.
