My oldness has been confirmed

I was running in the neighborhood this past weekend.

As I approached a cul d sac I saw some kids playing. They were having a nerf war.

The kid closest to me yelled out to the others to stop shooting, an old man was coming.

I'm not sure if I should be hurt or be happy the kids were respecting the elderly.

Fortunately I live in a retirement civilization, so no recognition or the person behind you would be offended

Its happened to me. I can remember thinking "who the hell they calling old?" and then I realized I was the only one around. I do remember growing up thinking all my grammar school teachers had to be ancient. Most were late 20's or early 30's at the time.

I work in radiology and many years ago I had the opportunity to x-ray my 3rd grade teacher. Back then, I thought she was soooo old. As in crypt-keeper old.
When I called her name she said, "I know you!" I said, "I know you too!" and we chatted through the whole exam about her being my teacher in the 70s. It turns out she lives in my neighborhood, only a few blocks away and she looked great for her age, 69. We had a lovely chat. After she left, I did the math to calculate how old she would have been when she was my teacher. IIRC she was 40.
Many of the other teachers were probably fresh out of school in their 20s so that's why she seemed so old to an 8 year old. :sad2:

I used to teach Kindergarten. I knew I was old when the kids would ask me how old I was and I would reply "Grandma aged." I was in my 50's and not anywhere near me having actual grandchildren yet, but I was the age of most of their grandparents so it answered the question.

No! I'm sorry my story is so scattered. It was probably in the mid 2000s when I saw her.

I looked for an obit and found one on her dh from 2019. He was 85 then so he would be 92 now if still alive. They were married 62 years. How sweet. Anyway, it's likely she is still alive.
