Let me start by saying I'm stayed at BWV twice on cash, this was was first DVC stay, and was at OKW.

My impressions:

First, I loved OKW. I also love BWV. Two very different kids of vacations, which is the beauty of this program.

I liked the size of the unit, and the spaciousness of the patio. I was in building 14, right across from the Hospitality House, which was SO convenient. Like parking outside my room. Didn't like that my patio faced the roadway (blocked by a few trees), but all in all, it was great.

The facilities again had a very different feel from BWV. It felt more like a resort vacation rather than a hotel vacation. Both appeal to me, but again, it was different. Loved the pre-recorded steel drum music at the pool, and the sand nearby was a hit with the kids.

Liked Olivia's a lot this trip (wasn't impressed when I ate there last year, but it seems to have improved both in service and food quality).

Staff was great. Got more 'Welcome Home's than I could handle. Felt like part of a family.

What would I change? The bathroom in the 1 BR - I didn't like that the kids had to come into the master BR to use the bathroom (BW has two doors) -I understand from a friend that some of the 1 BR at OKW do have this feature.

I would add elevators for carrying luggage!! (Obviously I wouldn't really add them, it's just a pain on the 2nd floor when my suitcase has Jimmy Hoffa inside of it). Maybe I'll call Bell services next time!

I would add another ferry to DTD during peak hours (12 people per ferry isn't enough)

Basically, you can see, there was very little I would change.

Next trip is BWV in July - need to be closer to the action again (I like going downstairs and 'being somewhere'), and of course, use the pool there (ha ha ha ha ha)

But I can certainly see going back to OKW again, and can understand why some people love it so.

I loved the parking at the door thing too. It is rather nice there, especially if you looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Disney stuff. It just seems more realxing.

Lidisney... or anyone else for that matter:

Would rather..
have one entrance to the bathroom and be closer to the hospitality house and all those amenities:
or
have two entrances to the bathroom and be further back in the property? (i know there are other pools back there.. just wondering which is more appealing)
thanks, shelly

I vote for being closer to the Hospitality House (but that's important to me) - after all, I don't get much privacy from my kids anyway!!!

Glad you love 'em both. My "heart" is with OKW but I enjoy staying at BWV, too.

Yes, the units in Turtle Pond and South Point have the double entrance to the bath. The new buildings numbered in the 60's also have elevators to provide more handicap access.

For LilDisney and others
At OKW the Bldgs above 29 have 2 entrances into the master bath in the 1 BR( like the newer DVC properties). So if you need that extra door ask for 30 and up.

It is good to hear such good feedback on OKW. We leave for OKW tomorrow, and we will hopefully enjoy it alot too. First DVC trip, so it's all brand new! :)

We stayed at OKW a few years ago on cash before we were members and the ONLY draw back of this resort is if you do not have a car. Not that it is not possible to have a great vacation, but OKW is so large that a lot of walking could be involved. Really nice resort though.

The newer buildings have two entrances to the Bathroom at OKW, one through the laundry room. Glad you liked both and your post is a nice subtle summary of the of the ins and outs of OKW vs BW. Some get into building one resort up at the expense of the other but to me it's always been a case of personal preference between two great resorts.

Love to stay on Turtle Pond and have the 2 entrances. I love to walk (seems to get rid of the stiffness in the knees) so walking to the HH is great.

Call me crazy but after a week in WDW I talked DH into a trip to check out the OKW which we received info on when we had 2 in college and 2 in private HS. We also had pretty empty pockets when it came to buying vacation property! Once on site we were told to look around but Disney now had BWV only for sale. We bought that day, but most of our stays have been OKW (my favorite but DH loves BWV so next 200 pts. will be OKW resale). It is great to have so many options depending on group size and personal interests!
