My Ohana Story......

We had a similar experience in December. When we got to the podium, they said we did not have a reservation. When I game them my reservation number, they were able to pull it up. BUT, they said it was for an hour after I had originally made the reservation!!! I couldn't argue with them and didn't know how to prove that I had not made a reservation at 8:25 with boys that usually go to bed at 8. They would not even take our name and told me to come back at 8. We were finally seated at 9 and my youngest son slept through the entire meal. I wasn't charged for my son's meal (we were on the dining plan, so an extra credit didn't really do anything for us). I haven't complained because we had much worse happen on the trip- $250 stolen from my bag at bell services- and I didn't want to dilute the worst issue by complaining too much.

I believe I will cancel my ADR to 'Ohana (3 weeks away) along with a note regarding why I am cancelling: I don't want to spend all night waiting to eat on my last night there. I've been on the fence about this one for the past week because of reviews I've read. That's kind of bad because I sort of had it down to begin with as a must do. I had a Disneyland (didn't know the difference) coloring book as a small child & always wanted to stay at the Poly. Word of mouth is a restaurant's best friend or worst enemy!

I think there is a problem there and has been for years. I have never ever posted about my experiences there and have only gone twice...both times it was a huge hassle checking in with long waits. The only reason I returned was I was with others who love it.

I don't know Liz....if Ohana has such a huge systemic problem wouldn't the place suffer a massive dip in attendance? There are so many other dining options at Disney, heck, there is another option right next to Ohana in Kona Grill.

I'm not saying that Ohana doesn't have it's issues, but usually if a restaurant has multiple serious systemic issues/problems they usually don't stay in business.

To each their own, I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I have never had an issue at Ohana. I am curious if that changes when we go in August....maybe I will come back with a different opinion.

I agree with you about restaurants not staying in business, but I don't think real world restaurants are comparable to a WDW resort restaurant. There will always be new people coming for a vacation at WDW, that stay at the POLY or elsewhere on the monorail line, and book 'Ohana. Then there are the guests of other Disney resorts that want an all you can eat dinner and don't want to use park admission and will say "Hey, let's try that place at the POLY." Disney will NEVER run out of these new guests. Think about how many new visitors come to WDW in a year...it's got to be thousands. Not all visitors are repeat DIS guests. :goodvibes

A local restaurant to me WILL run out of guests. Hundreds of people are not flooding my area every day and then looking for a place to eat.

Good point. And the first few times we went to Disney, we went "blind" -- no research re restaurants, crowds, etc. However, the posts on here seem to indicate that Ohana has real issues getting folks with reservations seated at the time of their reservation.
