OK, I'm coming out of lurkdom because I want to share this great experience with people who appreciate Disney Magic! But I decided first I would introduce myself!
My name is Jenni, married 12 yrs this August. DD is 3 next month...the light of our lives. We have always been Disney fans, but after struggling with infertility 6 yrs, it was too hard to visit the parks & be reminded of what we didn't have.
But, now we have DD & just HAD to take her on her first trip this past May! We had a great time, mostly because we did a LOT of lurking on the DIS boards!! We loved it so much that we are taking advantage of the free dining & going back again in Sept! Our DD is now a Disney fanatic, and having an Ariel bday party in 3 wks!
Now for the Disney Magic! One night we were in Downtown Disney. At the Christmas store, I went up to an artist (an older lady...maybe 70?) & asked if they could personalize an ornament for my DD on the spot. She said yes, asked what I wanted...I told her my dd name, spelled it, and 2005. As we were talking, I noticed she was from my old hometown, the quad-cities, IA-IL. We started talking & she mentioned another town in IL. I said, oh, I was born in Monmouth! She said, "so was I! What was your maiden name?" I told her, the same name as my daughter! We gave her my maiden name as my Dad was the only son & had 3 daughters. She said, "are you any relation to Ross ____?"
I almost fell over & immediately got tears in my eyes! I told her that was my grandfather! She knew him & my grandmother. They were prominent members of their community & she worked at the paper. She said she must have written articles about my grandparents nearly every day! I never knew my grandfather, he died before I was born. I aspire to be like my grandmother, who is now 93. It was sooooo magical to hear this lady tell stories about them...truly DISNEY MAGIC!
Sorry that was so long, but I have been meaning to share this here since I got back! I know I have read so many negative things about Disney experiences, I just really wanted to share my positive experience!!
