My niece is 13 years old and going thru so much crap right now
She's got the whole hormonal thing going on, plus she's got her parents divorcing too. They are being flip flopped back from house to house and she has no discipline whatsoever. Last night they had a school function for middle schoolers. She stayed for an hour and then left and went to a friends house to go to a hot tub...now she didn't tell her parents anything about this. My bil (dh's brother) went to pick her up, went in the school and she's nowhere to be found. He's panicking and he goes out to his truck and she's walking across the parking lot. She really doesn't care much about things, she tells her dad to go to heck (not exactly that word). Her mom is making the divorce nasty and is getting her involved in everything....She's such a smart girl, on the honor roll and she's got so much potential...she's watched her mom change so much over the summer...her mom started partying every single night, she cheated on bil and got a new bf and she pretty much lets her get away with everything. So, when bil tries to tell her he needs to know where she is at all times, she just throws a huge tantrum and says that he has no right to tell her what to do and takes off
I'm just so sad and worried about the whole situation. My bil is no angel either and i'm not going to say this is all sil's fault either, she just got the ball rolling.
My niece came up to see me last night and I asked her a million questions about why she did that and who she was with. She immediately said, "you are not my mom". I told her, no, I'm not, but I'm a concerned aunt and I feel that at 13 you are allowed to be doing way too much. She started to talk back to me like she does to my bil and I told her, she may get away with that from your parents but you will not talk to me that way, especially when I'm just trying to make sure you are ok. She apologized and cried and said that she's so confused and she's doing stuff so that maybe her parents will take their minds off fighting each other and focus on her, because she feels that they forgot about her! Oh, I just cried and cried. I'm just so sad about this whole thing.
