My new theory on pins / codes...

OK, I always have a trip in the works and I never have gotten one of the dumb pins or a code attached to my name.

Today I got a dumb email that had some lame-o offer for an upgrade to water parks and more if I went before May, or something like that. It also had a link to see my current itineraries, which I clicked. Of course! I already have a fall/winter trip in the works, so why would they send me anything? They already know I will probably end up coming anyway and they want me to pay full price.

So, here's my idea. I wonder if you have an itinerary in the works on the Disney site if that eliminates you from getting a discount for that time period somehow. Do you think they monitor that and make SURE you don't get good offers? They'd be smart if they did!

What do you think? It might add to the region theory!

Well, I booked a package without a code, then I made an itinerary, ordered maps and ordered a vacation planning kit. I also emailed using the 'contact us' feature to ask "Why don't you ever send me emails or promotional codes?".

My husband also called and asked to speak to guest relations. That person said they'd forward an email to Marketing asking to put us on their future promo list. She said "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."

The day after all that (with a trip booked), I called and I had a code and they dropped my room price by 40%.

So, you should call and check. If you still don't have one, do everything I did, what can it hurt? :thumbsup2 Good luck!

Several years ago, I had a reservation for AKL with a AP rate. I got a postcard offer for the same time period several weeks later. It was not as good, so of course I didn't use that discount. BUT, I did get one for the time period of my travel. So there goes that theory.

Thanks for the reply! Hmmm, I'm confused now!! :confused3 Maybe they just don't like me.

I called again today and got the same (super-dumb) offer for ticket upgrades through May. I'll keep calling. I also decided to take my itinerary off the web, just on the off chance it will help. I've got nothing to lose since I don't have anything actually booked.

I booked a trip online for 7 nights POP preferred room with 10 day hopper no expire and was quoted over $1500 for myself and 9 yo son. When I heard about these codes, I called and tried to use one, but was told needed pin. A few weeks later, I called again and got a helpful CM and spent almost an hour on the phone with her and on hold while she looked for deals. She gave me same package WITH Dining for same amount of $$. SHe also gave me a room and ticket only package which ended up being $53ish a night for Preferred room location at POP. I almost took that, but you couldnt add the dining to that. I guess it is who you talk to when you call. I dont think they are very consistant with their offers at all.

When It comes down to it.. There is no predicting who will or won't receive a code. Nobody on this message board is privy to the methods that Disney uses in their targeted marketing.

I've read literally hundreds of differnent theories and none of them hold up to review.

At the end of the day - I can honestly say that it's about as 'random' a thing as I've ever seen.

I really think they eliminate you if you have already booked a trip, or ordered maps or the planning video, or if you come every year! Agree with OP!

I actually think they *might* do that in case you call back to cancel because you can't afford it. Then they tell you 'oh wait...I can save you 40%' then it saves you from cancelling OR they if you've booked at a value or moderate, they're hoping if you find out you have discount, you'll upgrade to a higher priced resort.

If you order the planning video, which I did before I got the code, it makes a lot of sense for them to have a discount waiting. You call after watching the video to make the rezzie. If the price is too steep, they say 'wait, you have a discount code attached to your household' to try and save the booking.

My code didn't show up until I booked at full price. Who knows what triggered it overnight! LOL but I'm more inclined to believe the person above who said it's a total mystery! But in that time I booked, ordered maps, spoke to guest relations, crossed my fingers, and my 7 year old wished on a the first star of the night and slept hugging his stuffed Mickey Mouse! :wizard:

We know for a fact that they do not elimate you if you have a booking pending.. because -- quite frankly - there are posts all over this board with people who booked.. received a code.. and then called and applied the code to their already existing booking.

Lots of them.

It truly is random. Wish on a Star .. like Dreamers Do!!

It's your best chance!

I have an itinerary also, and I used "the code":confused3

I can tell you what I was told when I contacted Disney. You go to the Disney website and sign in. Go to your profile and click UPDATE PROFILE. You need to do 2 things. 1) select the month you want to go on your trip. 2) Go to the bottom and click the boxes that allow them to send you promotional offers.

I am SO busted-- I have been DISing when I should have been working.

:rotfl:

Are you headed our way for any springtime festivities? PM me! (Yeah-- I could've PMd you, but isn't it FUN to get a reply to your posts in your CP?)

I hope the mods don't yell at me.
