We just got back from our first stay at the Fort and I loved it. Animal Kingdom Lodge and Port Orleans Riverside have been my favorites. I did not expect to like the fort so much, can't wait to take my kids and grandkids there.

We had a great site in the 300 loop and were very close to the comfort station and the bus stop.

We used the buses and boat for transportation and had good luck and quick times all but the last day. We did not rent a cart and did fine. We went to the marina and watched the fireworks several times, rented the little boats, swam in the Meadows pool, rode our new bikes (a little scary since we haven't been on a bike in at least 40 years, no you do not forget but we were shaky) I think I will save up and get a three wheeler :)

Went and got take out chicken the first night from I think it was Trails End, even though I read good reviews ours was very dry and not good. On the other hand we tried 50's Prime Time chicken for the first time and it was outstanding.

We arrived on the Oct. 7th, had some of the worst rain I have ever seen in Atlanta on the way down, but after a few sprinkles on the 7th at the Fort no rain, great weather.

I like most of the changes in the parks, except I think that Main Street Bakery is not so special anymore and the pastry shop in Epcot/French Pavilion looks nice but the quality of the pastries has gone down.

Overall it was a great experience as we celebrated our 40th anniversary. We liked it so much we are thinking of buying a bigger RV. I now know why so many people love staying at the fort.

We have a convert!!!

Glad you enjoyed it. Everything you mentioned are exactly the reasons we love the fort. The other resorts are nice, but there is something missing compared to the fort.

Yep, I see one more family hooked on The Fort. It is one of the reasons we bought a TT. Waiting for pictures of the bigger RV. popcorn::

Welcome, new convert! We've stayed at most of the Disney resorts and have to agree that we like the Fort the best. The only way it could be better is if the location were over in the Boardwalk area - love walking to Epcot and Studios...but we'll take it as it is!

And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Glad you had a great trip. We feel the same way now that we've stayed at the Fort. Can't imagine staying in a hotel again!

I took my wife there in a borrowed motor home in 2004. She was hooked. My wife was the one who started the RV shopping. Now we make it down every other year. Our two kids love all the activities as well as the atmosphere and serenity.

where else in WDW can deer, turkeys and all sorts of wildlife roam through your "room"?

It's amazing how we can get 'hooked' on the camping way of life, eh? We love having our own bed with us and really don't desire to stay at 'any' hotels. ever!

We have been going to the Fort since they opened in early 70's and have stayed in various RV's since then. We also enjoy going especially to the National Parks. We are actually in a campground now, 800 mi. from home.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, and know you will have many more there in your future! pixiedust:

DH & I also celebrated our 40th anniversary there a few years ago. We have literally 'grown up' with the parks, starting with just the MK with our two children! ;)

So glad you had such a great time. I'll bet you are already plotting your next visit.

As to biking, google Terra Trike Rover. It's one of the least expensive recumbent trikes. It is like riding in a lawn chair or your recliner at home...no pressure or weight on aging body parts (I was born when Truman was in the White House, so believe me, I know about aging body parts!) I loved riding mine all over The Fort. I even brought left over pizza (in its box strapped to the rear rack) back to the pop up after dining at Trail's End. Plus it was great for lugging all the paraphenalia to the pool.

Mine has a Rag Top which provides shade and rain resisitance and makes it look a bit like an Amish buggy. If I get too warm, I can just pull over and spritz with a mister fan and grab a cold drink out of the backpack cooler. It means I always have a seat in the shade while waiting to rest up and cool off.

I belong to a camping club and most of the members have golf carts. But I am perfectly content with my trike (much cheaper, less maintenance, better exercise, so much fun!). It is wonderful to explore state park campgrounds and trails.

Happy Trails to You!

Can I ask you how much the chicken is at Trails End takeout.....how many pieces and do you get sides with it? We are spending an afternoon/evening at FW (we are staying at WL) and going to do fishing, horseback riding.....then was thinking of grabbing the family chicken dinner and sitting somewhere and eating. We are renting a golf cart. Then when it gets dark we will see the decorations (going first week of December) and go to the campfire.

So was wondering just how much that dinner was....we are not big eaters so something like a 10 piece is fine for us. Just didn't know if it came with sides and how much it was. Allears doesn't have the price.

Thanks so much and glad you had a great trip!!

I found this menu on a site. It's dated 2011, so prices have probably gone up a little, but the meal is still the same.

awesome, just what I was looking for!! Thanks so much. I have a reservation at Trails End but we just didn't want to sit down for dinner at a restaurant...we wanted to grab and go. I am just concerned with the weather if it is getting chilly. Might want to get out of the cold.....so guess I will wait a little longer before I cancel my sit down at Trails End.

Thanks again!!!

There are picnic tables on the side porch for eating outside. Weather is still warm the first of Dec. may need a light jacket. You will enjoy your evening at the Fort there is nothing better.

We bought into Disney DVC in 2004 at SSR. We stayed at the resort and loved everything about it. In 2005 we bought into OKW and when we stayed in a 2 bedroom WOW like being in our house. We found out Walt built OKW not knowing the DVC would go over as it has and put all into it. Size of 2 bedroom is 400 feet bigger then all other resorts. Then we stayed at BW with a BWview WOW looking out over the board walk and the lake with all the goings on was the best. So We like Disney 100% as our favorite.

Note that the GAG comes with the two sides, but there are others you can buy to supplement the meal. We always get a GAG. And we like their pizzas, although some don't.

Happy Anniversary, myjourney.

Yep, the Fort will use its magic on you. Good luck on a bigger RV. Hopefully you'll use it for a lot more Fort trips.
