My New Disney Touring Strategy

Is it so hard to believe that someone would really feel the way the OP does? I don't get how you see that as trolling.

Different opinions are great. Posting a "haha, I'm staying at Universal from now on because Disney sucks" message on a Disney message board is trolling.

Except that's not really what she said. She said she still loves Disney and will continue to go there, she's just doing it a different way now.

Just to clarify, I still love love love the Disney parks. That's why the next trip we will combine both, but stay at UOR for the Express Pass.

The reason I posted this was because staying at Universal made me realize that I can still enjoy the Disney parks, yet take a step back from this hyperscheduled FP+ planning by touring them in a way that isn't focused on rides, rides, rides. For example, I don't care about Test Track and Soarin' anymore. Next time I go to Epcot, it will be to enjoy the atmosphere especially World Showcase. Then we'll come back to UOR and get our ride fix in with the Express Pass and enjoy those parks as well. Just one example.

The "win-win" part was that I actually liked Portofino more than the Disney Deluxes.

Hope this makes sense! My heart is still with the Mouse

I have been going to both Universal and Disney the last several trips, along with Sea World and Busch Gardens on occasion. Caused more by pricing in Orlando and what tickets I have on hand then FP+ my next several vacations are going to be change. This coming January, I'm planning on 9 or 10 days seeing Universal, Sea World, Busch Gardens and only 1 of those days at WDW. I have 3 days left on a No Expiration Park Hopper and with current pricing it's better to spend those one at a time.

On the Next trip, I'll do mostly WDW along with 1 day at Universal off of a couple of complementary Universal passes I have that don't expire.

I own a small DVC contract so I'm planning a few nights at OKW or AKV for the Disney and Sea World Days before going onsite for the Universal portion of the trip. I'm traveling solo so I may opt for Cabana Bay to save some money instead of one of the deluxe hotels. It depends on what type of deal I can get.

Like others have said before, I think FP+ has actually made doing Universal easier for those of us that have stayed away in the past. Being able to spend the morning/afternoon in Universal then return to Disney for dinner and your evening FP+? Pretty cool. Feels less like you're taking a Disney day away to do Universal, which is what has always stopped our family from doing it.

For my family personally, there is just too much expense involved in getting to Orlando to spend it doing solely Universal, but I'm glad it worked out nicely for your family OP.

I wanted to ignore this, but I cannot. Please understand, my post was a simple retort to your attitude-laden response. What was it that the pot called the kettle again? You said I would only be able to attend three attractions a day, so I thought that needed to be addressed. I did not say I NEVER used FP. I said I don't need it to enjoy the parks. I didn't need it prior to FP existed, and it's not a necessity now.

And yeah, you said different strokes...AFTER misinterpreting my post with your barrage of sarcasm. Now please drop it, because the OP doesn't deserve any negativity in their post.

That isn't what I said at all, I said have fun waiting in SB lines for more than 3 attractions, which is what FP+ causes you to do. Sorry but it seems you were the one who misunderstood what was posted.
You came here bashing Universal all because some posters have decided that their hard earned money is better spent there, and yes your posts come off very defensive like somehow our choice in going to Universal has anything to do with your way of doing Disney. I assure it does not, I don't care how you do WDW or how you spend money and I wouldn't come to a thread and insult what you plan on doing with it. But it seems you would, so again its just different strokes.........

I just went back and re-read and you are right you never said that you never used FP, so sorry I misread that. Still no reason to be so defensive and nasty in your responses though.

But that's NOT it. Did you completely miss this comment of hers?

She's still going to Disney, she's just not spending her ENTIRE vacation there and there's nothing wrong with that.

Wait...do you own the board?!?! Do you decide what is worthy of a new post?!?! WOW!!! Talk about a sense of entitlement.

you make a good point.

I do wonder though what the point of all the sub forums are for.

If I were to look at the various categories, it seems to me, this particular forum gets the most activity, and maybe some people are using the most active forum to complain about a topic that really has nothing to do with a touring strategy.

I think this has far more to do with touring strategy than tons of other threads around here, yet I only see members policing these kind. Funny how that works.

Surely people so concerned with keeping posts on topic to touring strategy wouldn't contribute to these types of threads with comments that have far less to do with touring strategy, would they?

Some of these guys should hear the person who does own the board on the DIS Unplugged podcast when WDW/Universal comparisons come up lately. I think it would be a real eye opener for them.

I'm glad to read reports like this because they definitely help me with the WDW touring strategies I'm considering.

I think it has very much to do with touring strategy. She's explaining how she gets use out of FP+ while also being able to do other things.

We did modify our vacation plans to spend part of the time at Universal. We visited Universal for the first time in 2011 and were pleasantly surprised - it was so relaxing to have the parks close to the hotel as well as CityWalk in walking distance and obviously the FOTL Express Pass.

So we cancelled our last two nights at Disney and spending them at Universal so we can end on a relaxed note. Even though I'm a planner I'm really not enjoying having to decide my ride times two months out! I will likely cancel most of my ADRs as well because I feel it will be too stressful to keep an eye on that res and the fastpass res too.

We can only visit during peak times so old fastpass was key to enjoying the parks during the crowded times. I think it works fine at other times but we'll definitely have longer standby waits than in previous years - not how I like to spend my vacation.

But definitely agree that it is geared towards a different demographic. How nice we have both parks to choose from!

we will have to agree to disagree.

I joined this board for the sole purpose of gathering info and advice. I've long given up any notion of this board being useful for that purpose. a very small but vocal group runs rough shod over the board repeating the same tired mantra over and over. that is what this sub forum is now primarily about. not touring strategy, but a vehicle to be used in the hopes of some execs at Disney seeing the anger and getting the system changed.

Agreed. This has been a wish of many fans that hearkens back to the 90s. Even if it wasn't villains themed, I'm sure they could figure something out. A thrill park would be great, because not only will it rival IOA (and do it better), but it would change the views of that teen market who loathes WDW (*** it's not "cool"). I am all in with this idea...I wish the Imagineers were too!

That would be cool. If only the had a billion dollars I'm sure they could make it happen. ;)
