My new Dell is here!!!!! I got some questions....

Its here!!! Now,I haven't opened the boxes yet,I have a few questions before I start. I have AOL and plan on connecting to
DSL,my question is about all my AOL info; my address,favorites
etc. What will happen to all that info and will it automatically be there when I plug in the new Dell? Also,do I have to contact AOL about no longer having dial up?

Well, I am assuming you have an older computer that you are not going to be using anymore?

Your settings won't automatically be on the new computer. You will need to transfer them over I assume. Since I don't have AOL, I am not sure.

With regards to the dial up you will want to call AOL and let them know, you will have a lower rate for not using the dialup part of your service.

To keep all you bookmarks you will need to copy the "organize" folder that you will find under AOL in Program Files.

You will have to purchase DSL. AOL Broadband takes up to six weeks to have installed and it is horrible.

Most DSL Service Providers take 4-6 weeks to set you up.

Wow!! I thought I was going to connect my computer and "plug" into DSL!!!! Shows ya what I know!
So,are you sayin' I'm stuck with dial up for 6 more weeks?????

I ask whoever you are going to get DSL through. They have to do line tests and things like that.

Of course, if you have cable in your area, you can also get a cable modem (my preference) and that won't take nearly as long.

Of course then you get into the arguements of cable vs DSL.

You'll still be able to keep your AOL screename , same account, etc on the new pc.

But when I got my Dell, they had an offer to try AOL for free for a certain amount of months, so I signed up for AOL with a new account/screename.
