I'm reading over everyone's comments and while I agree with the OP and some of you to a certain point, things are not ALWAYS what they seem and believe me, I know FIRST hand!!!
Two years ago, I had my DS(then 3 1/2 yrs old) taken from me. I guess I had calls and complaints on me leaving him at home by hisself, supposedly me being a prostitute, and whole list of other things. 99% of it wasn't true. I did leave my son home once by hisself when I had to go to work. It was at night and I figured that I'd be home before he woke up. I had let my neighbor know, who lives right below me, what was going on. (I'm crying just typing this, so please excuse any misspells) Well, he woke up about an hour before I had come home and she called to let me know.
Anyways, the incident that changed my life was I home extremely sick one night. My son had asked could he go downstairs and play. I told him yes, but to make sure he came back to let me know what was going on. He did!! But, on his way back down, he accidently locked the door. I had extremely bad sinus problems and ear problems. I had called my neighbor and told her that I was home and that I was laying down. She said that was fine and she would send him up in a couple of hours. Next thing I know, my dad, stepmom, and the police are knocking at my door. I said come in and they said that they couldn't.
Since the door was locked, and according to the local police here, I was negelecting my child and that CSB would be there within the week. I bawled my eyes out because they made it out worse than what it was!! (Really, really sobbing here!!)
Come to find out, my neighbor's BoyF at the time, had called and made up all of these lies because he was hooked on drugs REALLY BAD!!! And since I had caught on, I wouldn't give him any more money.(In the begining, they used to watch my son when I would go to work. When she started saying that she needed the money, I told her that I had given it to her BoyF. That's when everything came out!!) I made him even write a letter stating he was a lying SOB!!! She even got the guts to kick him out and when my case worker came over, she confessed as well. Needless to say, by the time everything came out and I WAS TOTALLY CLEARED ON ALL CHARGES, it was too late!! I had to go through all of the BS to get my son back. My son was gone for 11 months!!! Thank god my father and stepmother took him in and we didn't have to go through a legal system/court. It was a voluntary home situation, so that was the only good thing. I got to see my son whenever I wanted to!! But, the point is that he was gone from me and it hurt like heck!!!
Back to the OP, I'm not saying that what the GF or GM said isn't/wasn't true or even what you and your family has seen isn't the truth, but PLEASE always remember that things aren't always they seem. I was a hard working and still am, mom!! I have always held at least one job, if not two. I know that you said that they aren't working, but maybe one of them is not able to, can't find work, etc. I'm really not trying to make excuses for them, but like I said, you NEVER know the whole story and not everything IS what IT seems.
Sorry this is soooo long, but I really needed to get this off of my chest. And one last thing for anyone who wants to respond to this: I know that me leaving my child at home that one time was totally wrong. I don't need you to remind me or be cruel to me. Like I said, everything was cleared and the fact that I had a babysitter downstairs from me and was home, was the reason why they cleared me of that situation. I don't need anyone telling me what a horrible parent I was because I wasn't!!
Thank you for letting me express this.
