Her dd went to bite into a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup, and said it smelled funny. She broke it in half and there were live maggots crawling inside!

The worst part was that WE gave out Reeses, so now I have thrown all of our leftovers away.

She saved the wrapper with the serial number on it, (thank goodness it wasn't our bag numbeer!) along with the candy (put it in a plastic bag) and is going to call the company on Monday.

I want to vomit everytime I think about it. :scared:

I know, DH said the same thing! But if I didn't see it with my own eyes, I would have said the same thing. But my dd is very good friends with her dd, so we were one of the first she called.

After looking at it closer, the chocolate was a bit wierd on the outside too. Nothing that a child would have noticed. But it had a wierd film over it...kinda grainy and sandy looking...:confused3

Years ago, when I worked in a video store, we had a box of Reese's come in that was buggy, too. They seem to like Reese's for some reason. There were several small holes in the packaging, so whatever type of fly or bug was in them bored through the package.

I don't know if the bugs originated in the warehouse of the candy supplier, at the Reese's plant, or what. But candy can get buggy.

Definitely possible. When I was staying at the Radisson I got a jelly that had been completely molded over. It was disgusting.

Thank God they looked at it before she bit into it!

They are mealworms. Maggots don't live on candy. Mealworms do look similar to maggots though. I got an almond joy once that was covered in mealyworms.

Yeah, it's possible. I found one in a Reeses peanut butter cup when I was a child--I've never been able to eat one ever again. :(

That makes more sense than fly larvae, considering the way the packaging was bored through. A beetle would have the strength to get through the package.

I thank you (and so do my hips and thighs) for this most disgusting story!

That makes sense. All I know is, it was nasty! :scared: Bugs don't belong on candy!

OK, I can not come up with anything more mature to say than EWW, EWW, EWW and EWWWWWW

Yep, Reese's WAS my favorite candy but I'm quite sure that little problem of mine has now been resolved.... another 2 or 3# each year that I might lose:rotfl2:

This happened to my entire 4th grade class when a classmate of mine brought in Reese's peanut butter cups as her birthday treat. It was truly disgusting! I don't think I ate anything that my mom didn't make for weeks! BTW, 4th grade was a very LONG time ago!!;)

OMG... I just got finished eating a Reese's Pumpkin...

OMG, how gross! My DD's friend opened a Reeses cup and said it looked funny and showed it to me. It looked all crumbly and grainy like you said with whitish spots on it. I made her throw it out.

It really makes you wonder!

Do you remember a while back there was this big thing where someone bought chocolate from a dollar store and there were maggots in it? They said the candy they get can be old.

Although it is good information... I dont think it matters when you are getting ready to bite down on the chocolately goodness if its maggots or mealworms.
Either way... insta puke. :crazy2:

Seriously....it turned me off completely to all of our Halloween candy. And since we live in the neighborhood, and probably visited the same houses, I might just throw all of my candy away.

I know the kids will be heartbroken, but I'll just go and buy them each one of those huge swirly suckers and they'll be happy...:rotfl:

But yes, you are right....I am thanking her not only for telling me, but on the bright side, actually seeing it definitely has curbed my gaining a few lbs at Halloween!
