My mom has leukemia-updated :(

Well, my mom went to the doctors today and it turns out that she does not have Leukemia, she has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma instead:guilty: I'm not sure if this is better or worse. We don't know yet what stage she is in, but aside from her high white blood cell count, she does not have any outward symptoms.

My best friend actually had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma a few years ago at age 30. She was diagnosed at stage 4 with aweful symptoms, endurred 8 months of intensive chemo & went into remission. She has been clear for 2 years now.

I'm just terrified for my mom. & I feel selfish, but I remember what a nightmare this was to go through with my best friend. I can't believe I have to go through this again with another loved one. :sad2:

:grouphug:

Prayers for your mom, you and your family. You are not being selfish, and you need an outlet too. You can be strong for your mom, but you will need a soft shoulder to lean on. Medicine has come a long way, and I will pray for your mom's health.

 and prayers are all I have to offer.

More than 30 years ago I used to do a housecall on an 80+ year old woman. She had CLL. Her count was high, but she was fine. And medicine has come a long way in 30 years.

Best wishes and keep up the prayers!

My mom passed away from breast cancer. I know how you are feeling right now. I offer my prayers for strength throughout this journey.

 Sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis. Please keep us updated on how she's doing.

 My best to your mom and good thoughts for continued strength for you. We're here whenever you need to let it out.

My cousin had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in her mid-20's. I'm not sure, but I think she was stage 3 or 4 when diagnosed. She went through chemo etc. and thankfully is now cancer free for about 4 years.

I can't imagine how hard this is for you, but try to remain positive. Maybe the reason you went through the first time with your friend was to help you be better prepared now, when your mom needs you.

My grandmother had cancer and was sick for the better part of 8 years. It was my responsibility to go to the hospital each day and be there for her as my mom and my aunts all lived out of town. During that time I got married, had a baby and was working fulltime. It was horribly stressful and I was resentful at times, but looking back, I would change one moment of that time because she and I become so much closer.

 I don't know alot about this, but I think I have heard this is very curable. We are all here for you anytime you need to vent or talk. My Dad is going through radiation now for prostate cancer, and I do know that having a postive attitude does wonders.

Your Mom is in my thoughts and prayers.

My wife had Chronic Myletosis Leukemia (CML) which started out exactly as your moms (no symtoms, caught while giving blood). It was easily treated with GLEEVAC. It's an enzyme inhibitor. First few weeks are hell with bone aches but after that it's just a maintenance thing like diabetes. GLEEVAC is EXPENSIVE though!

Here's a forum to check out.

Just to prepare you...the leukemia may be the tip of the ice-berg. Tell her to nip it ASAP.

Best of luck to you and her.
