My goodness, what a night!

My boyfriend Chris, my friend Eric and I spend the afternoon at MGM and left to head to MK around 5:30. Since I was dressing as Mary Poppins, I decided to fix up my costume in the bathroom at Grand Floridian (also it was a chance to show the place to Eric who had never seen it.) I ended up spending about half an hour on hair and make up! (yes, when I dress up, I go all out!) A lady saw me putting make up on and asked who I was being. When I replied Mary Poppins, she asked when I went on. At first I thought "huh?" but then I realized- she thought meant I was the real Poppins getting ready to go out! I quicky corrected her and said I was going to the Halloween party. hehe. The moment I stepped out of the bathroom, I started getting reactions- it was amazing! I could see little children following me with their eyes.

We were supposed to be meeting my friends Dianna and Vicky in Tommorrowland sometime after 6, but by the time we finally made it over there it was almost 7! I hate running late! Thankfully, I did have my cell on me and left a message with Vicky. However, it was almost 7:30 by the time we met up. I kept circling Tomorrowland, almost in tears that I couldn't find them. Thankfully, I spotted a princess in pale blue and a witch in a red wig and knew it was them. It certainly helped that I had a big white costume that made me easy to spot! Chris had a chain with a dollar sign on it for his costume. He was supposed to have a 70's hat too but he left it in the car because it gave him a headache. Eric wore a black cape. I tried to make him look like a penguin, but it didn't work too well. We also ran into my friend Marcia who was dressed as a girl devil.

Dianna gave me a pretty, lined black bag with a cat's face on it to use for trick or treating. It worked great! We hit almost every trick or treat station and got quite a bit of candy- I'm almost certain more than last year. We missed a few in Toontown because we went down the path to Alice's tea party and forgot to go back. The parks were definately more crowded than when we went last year. The candy lines were longer, though the lines for attractions weren't too bad. We walked on Space Mt. early on. Last year, I noticed that we frequently ran into the same people over and over. This year, there were only a few repeat encounters, particularly an adult Strawberry Shortcake who seemed to be by herself. I love seeing what everyone else is wearing- though I don't think there was as much creativity this year. We did see a great Oz unit though, and I think 2 different Pan families...rather an abundance of Captain Hooks.

One thing that was rather funny is that because all of us but Eric were CMs, we kept getting bumped into by someone who knew one of us! I had a few friends in the parade too. My friend Sarah was in a checked dress in one of the children's wagons, and my friend Heather was a rope girl. Dianna works on Main Street and has for like 7 years so she knew almost everyone in that area.

We chose to watch the 10pm parade from townsquare on Main Street. Oddly enough- that area wasn't crowded at all! We were even able to stand up because no one was around us. Several of the performers noticed my costume. :) After that parade, guests left in droves, and it was so much nicer. We were even able to get on Peter Pan fairly quickly- and that always seems to have a line. They had some great photo opportunities besides the free one. Chris, Vicky, and I had our picture taken in a doombuggy. :)

I think by far my favorite part of the evening was all the attention my costume got- just an incredible rush! It's really strange...I've always considered myself shy and an introvert- but in certain situations, I thrive on attention. Everywhere I went, I could here mumbles of "Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins." When I rode Peter Pan and my boat passed people still waiting in line, I swear I saw everyone turn to look at me! Many times I had children wave at me or just stare in awe.

All night long people were coming up to me to tell me how great I looked or say that they almost thought I was the real one. I was asked 4 times to pose for pictures with people! I'd make sure they knew I wasn't the real one, and they'd say "oh, she (the child) won't know the difference." I told people not to let a line form or I'd get in trouble. hehe. It's funny how natural it now feels to pose for pictures because of my job.

Don't worry- my boyfriend took pics on his digital so I'll be able to show off my costume to all of you very soon! I was kinda surprised no one from the DiS approached me since I've mentioned my costume here so many times.

Oh- I did see one other Poppins- a little girl in a stroller wearing the nanny costume! I should've gotten a picture with her- drat it, but at the time, I was still stressing over finding my friends.

Wearing heels all night wasn't the best idea- my feet were really sore by the end of the night, but the costume just won't look right with flats! I'd even do it again...I'm so devoted to wearing a costume that I'll suffer for it. lol. I didn't shed a single piece throughout the night, and yes, it was fairly warm.

Now, as I sit here at my computer, I have that strange sorta aftershock feeling. I planned this day for months, and now it's over. I'm so tempted to buy tickets for another night...but I've really gotta to save money!

Happy Birthday. Were you standing on Main Street by Casey's watching the fireworks at 9:15? We were standing in front of you. I mentioned to my daughter that I thought it was you.

Your costume was Great!!!! It looked very well done.

We had a great time last night. I did think there was too many people though.

Yes, I was. :) You should have come over and said hi.

I'm so glad you liked that costume! I put a lot into it and am very proud of it. It's the first costume I made myself.

We took lots- I'll share when I get a chance.

Glad you had a fantastically fun night!! Are you able to go to DTD Sat or Sun evening for Trick-or-Treating there? We are debating doing that as our last horrah Sat. night before leaving for the 17hr drive home!! :) We'll be Capt. Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Capt. Hook, Mr. Smee, and Peter Pan.

Have a super day!
:)
Deb

They have trick or treating at DTD?? For adults and kids? I've been looking for something to do on the actual eve of Halloween! :)

DTD is very popular for Halloween. There are trick or treating stations. It was very crowded last year. Lots of people in costumes.
