My MIL is suddenly an expert on all things Disney.

If someone asks me for advice, I will give it. I admit I know quite a bit about Disney. I can tell in a few minutes if someone is clueless about Disney or if my advice is way over their head and I can also tell when I'm wasting my breath. Im not going to bash people for not creating spreadsheets or researching before they go. It's their money and their time. After their first time, I think they will know a little more and research better for next time. If they write Disney off completely, who am I to try to talk them into another trip. Why not just nod at someone's non expert advice and say "um hmmm". If some one doesn't make reservations so be it, they will learn very fast. I agree with another poster, we always find walk up ressies especially in the last few years with the economy the way it is. I am an ADR person but people do change their minds. Just have a back up plan. Everyone plans differently. I can care less who bashes Disney.......I can also understand people not having the time and interest in researching Disney the way I do. Until you have been there once, it's very difficult to imagine all Disney has to offer. We do the premium package soDH can go bass fishing everyday and I do know that package inside and out...however, Disney employees DO NOT, so no matter how much I knew and researced it still was a hassle since the CMs and managers were clueless, restaurants and recreation, they just don't have many guests on the plan. I work 7p-7a and have access to a great printer and Internet and hundreds of computers...during down time I research and print things out. My DH never knew Disney for anything but the big silver ball. I'm not gonna bash him for that nor would I ever bash my MIL on a forum.

"I told her what to do with them"...isn't it her vacation? Wether she does commando or not, is that not Her choice? My nieces hated the prince....trying to get them to dance was not a pretty memory for all of us, glad urs was though. We are opposite of commandos but I don't think commando style is wrong....it's a choice. Perhaps people need to just worry about planning for their family and not worry about how others do Disney........:thumbsup2

Well, I'm about to take my first trip to Disney. Not just me, but my husband's first and our girls' first as well. And the whole reason I joined the Disboards is because I knew nothing and wanted to learn, because I don't see us being able to swing airfare every year in this economy. I'm not normally a planner, but i do like to know my options. And I would absolutely welcome advice from folks who have been there and can help us maximize our fun. My whole trip is based on recommendations from folks, including the MNSSHP, staying at a value but eating TS meals, the meals I chose, the budget I have. I think it all comes from a place of wanting to help people have fun. I have people every day who ask for advice and then do the opposite of my advice. I think those are the examples people are referring to.

I, for one, could care LESS how anyone tours Disney. I have several friends and family members who go to Disney all the time and we all do Disney quite differently - to each is own. My issue, as I mentioned in an earlier post, is when someone "bugs" the hell out of me to help them with their trip, spends literally HOURS at my house, wasting my time, wanting me to help them price out different options and looking at different menus, etc. to only turnaround, not follow any of my advice but then come back to me to complain what a nightmare their trip was...really?? I didn't offer my advice, they came to me asking for it - huge difference!

For the most part, it appears that on this particular thread most folks are just sharing their own experiences. It doesn't appear to me that anyone is worrying about how others "do disney". Perhaps you are just reading too much into the responses.

I completely agree :thumbsup2 The cost of the airfare alone is :scared1: I wanted to research and plan so that the money I have spent on this trip does not go to waste. I'm not planning our days down to the minutes but I have a rough guideline of what I want to accomplish each day - most of which I have learned from reading Disboards. I feel like I have a better sense of what to expect now. Have a good trip!

It seems this thread has taken an odd turn.

@noahdove - Your post really doesn't fit the topic. Your post was about touring styles with a little bit of feeling that these people are missing out somehow. Not people who think they know everything about Disney and/or know little or even wrong info. :thumbsup2

My mom was telling me about a mutual friend taking her twin grandchildren at the same time I was going (first of June). Mom told the friend that basically my daughter has all of her sit down restaurants planned & organized. Friend told Mom 'we do too - we know where we want to eat & about what time' After asking for more details found out that the friend knows how to do WDW since it is her first trip .... you walk up to Cindy's for lunch since that is where granddaughter wants to eat & you might have to wait for 40 minutes..... :rotfl2:

First of all, what is to love about this thread and why is it great? Odd!
Secondly, you call this person a friend and if she would read the way u have described her, u think she would consider u a friend? You have knocked and questioned everything she did and how he did it. You were upset that she didn't do the things you old her to do with her kids. Advice is just that, take it or leave it. If your going to get upset if people don't follow ur advice, don't waste your time! Travel agents do this all the time, do you really think they care if you follow their suggestions once they get to their destination? Regardless of the # of questions they asked. I'm not reading into to much, ur bashing ur so called friend big time! I don't post how many times I've been to Disney but it's been many! More than most. I know ALOT. Someone always comes around and proves me wrong sometimes...even a newbie!

wasn't the original post about someone giving flat out incorrect information? I mean if I were new and listened to that person (OP's MIL) I would be having the most frustrating trip of my life!
