While all of the pieces may not seem to fit at this time, truth is often times stranger than fiction..
I'm very happy to hear that she is safe..![]()
As far as the investigators, they can say that she's not cooperating because she's not telling them what they want to hear. It would be a much easier case for them if it wasn't a kidnapping. It's just wonderful news to hear that she was found safe and unharmed.
Well, I have a little more respect for police investigators. I doubt they are describing her as uncooperative because she is not telling them what they want to hear.
I imagine that this 'case' will simply evaporate into the mist and we hear nothing more of it. If the missing woman were to continue to insist that she was abducted at gunpoint and driven across state lines, then it would become a case for the FBI. I bet that she was informed of that fact by the San Diego investigators; not wanting the FBI involved, she clammed up.
I bet the investigators are going to conclude that either 1) she became confused due to her medical condition and drove herself to San Diego, and she is now embarrassed; or 2) she won a pot of money and had a high ol' time at a resort in San Diego and didn't want her family to know.
The article is a bit vague about whether she was truly 'found' by the police (i.e., the police discovered her whereabouts and she then called her family), or if she found herself (i.e., she called her family, then the family notified the San Diego police who then drove out to the Misson Bay Resort where she was).
Anyway, I am also glad that this missing person case turned out well.

My guess is that you are correct. And I agree that I am glad she is OK.
OP, I'm glad your MIL is home safe. That must have been a harrowing time for your family.
Here are a couple of other articles with information about her MIL's situation.

I feel for the OP's family. No matter what actually happened, their fear was real and intense. My brother was involved in something similar a few years ago and we feared the worst while he was missing.

Lots of Hugs to you. Hang in there.Hi, guys. There are lots of good questions and I'll try to answer what I can without interfering with MIL's privacy.
What is said above is what is accurate with respect to the police. We were able to return her to Phoenix yesterday at 11:30am. By 1:00pm (the time they asked us to be there) she was being interviewed by Mesa Police. She was interviewed for 4 hours. She is telling them her story, but they have issues with the validity.
She continues to state that she was kidnapped at her home. The man made her get her spare car key and some clothes before they left. This is why her keys were there. It is possible that he wanted it to be a clear kidnapping so that he could extract ransom (and so made her leave her wallet and keys). Who knows.
Again, there are inconsistencies. Our biggest concern now is finding out the truth and helping the police do that. We are also doing our best to take care of my MIL no matter what happened. She experienced some trauma, regardless.
I will do my best to update and answer questions while, again, maintining some sort of privacy during an ongoing investigation.
