This is the way they showed me at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.
I like Hanes Mens Cotton Undershirts. Light weight, takes the dye well, and on the cheap side.
First Find some things to use to trace out the head
Make sure you place a mark in the center of each circle
Gather up each circle trying to make each fold kind even and then place a band around the whole thing (see near my thumb)
When you put the dye on, make sure that band just below the circles has a coordinating/contrasting color as you can see below.
All my little mickey shirts ready to go....
Tulip kits
I tye my shirts dry, then I soak them in cold water (no soda ash, coz the tulip kits dont need it) and wring them out well. If you dont wet them first, the dye just rolls off them, even if they have been washed a million times with no soap. (which btw you should do)
