From the research I've done, below is where we will dine during our first visit to Disneyland - they are in order of preference - does it look ok? All the meals will be either lunch or dinner as we probably will eat breakfast at the hotel (Doubletree). Thanks!

1. Carnation Café
2. French Market
3. Pacific Wharf Café
4. Strips Dips 'n Chips
5. River Belle Terrace
6. Goofy’s Kitchen
7. Bengal Barbecue
8. Rancho del Zocalo
9. Rainforest Café

Blue Bayou Restaurant will be closed during our stay

It's a shame the Blue Bayou is going to be closed during your stay. That happened to us last visit, so I am glad we can go in a few weeks.

Your choices look pretty good.

Have a great time!

We like the Plaza Inn. It's a bit more expensive, but plenty of good, hearty food to share.

I had struggled with this as well for our Feb. trip-wanted some new places to eat. Here's our list:

Friday:
Lunch-TGIFridays in Fresno (we don't have one in Modesto)
Dinner-weenies and marshmallows at the beach
Saturday:
Brunch-Blue Bayou
Dinner-Ariel's Grotto
Sunday:
Breakfast-Carnation Cafe (never eaten there!)
Lunch-probably Rancho del Zocalo as we have never eaten there
Dinner-ESPN Zone
Monday:
Brunch-Blue Bayou (this time with an extra 6 people)
Dinner-Somewhere in the park, don't know where, will gladly accept all ideas. I am thinking maybe French Market as we have never eaten there?
Tuesday:
Breakfast-Mimi's Cafe
Lunch-Rainforest Cafe (first time)
and then we hit the road for home, hopefully too stuffed to want fast food. LOL

Sounds good! Since the blue bayou is going to be closed during your stay all the more reason to go back sooner!

You know I used to eat at French Market all the time, they had the best Jambalaya ever but they stopped serving that :sad2:

When my sister and I were there week before last we ate at Rancho del Zocalo (it seemed like I'd read on the boards that it was good). I had a "bowl" of tortilla soup--served in a plastic Dixie-type bowl, not very big at all--that cost $4.99. Just the soup, with a few tortilla strips on top. I expect food to be over-priced at DL, but that was a real ripoff. My sister had gotten there before me and ordered a combination plate of some kind (pork, maybe). She said it was so-so--I tasted the beans and they tasted like Rosarita straight from the can.

There is good food at so many other places, I'd skip RDZ. I'd recommend the Pizza Port in Tomorrowland instead.

I can see that sentiment I guess. I happen to love Rancho del Zocalo but then I love all Mexican food, even the mediocre kind! The food at RDZ is definitely NOT authentic Mexican food and the beans do taste like they come out of a can. But I love their nachos and taco salads, both of which are nice sized and shareable. It also has kind of a nice atmosphere, my kids love to sit in the area where you can see the Big Thunder Mountain trains coming in. As far as Pizza Port, I like that a lot too, but again, if you go expecting some kind of authentic tasting pizza/Italian food you will be disappointed. And the atmospere there is a crowded, food court, type setting. These are both theme park eateries but they are both a nice break from the burger/hot dog routine and a cut above fast food in my book. And Pizza Port also has huge portions. We used to be able to get by on two meals for the four of us but my 11 year old eats way more lately, so we get three. But still we are able to share and save some money. Just know that anywhere you eat at Disneyland is going to be expensive and the food will probably be tasty but not exceptional!

I eat at The Pizza Port just about every time I go to Disneyland (about once a week). The pizza is not very good, but the pasta and salads are fabulous. I do suggest you stay away from Strips Dips 'n Chips. They used to have decent food there, but now it is very cheap and processed chicken. You will most likely be very disappointed!

Your list looks great. Too bad about the Blue Bayou. The food there is a little hit and miss, but the atmosphere is really fantastic! We ate at the Carnation Cafe for the first time on our last trip and loved it. We got seats for lunch right on the edge of the outdoor seating and had such a nice time eating our meal watching the crowds and action on Main Street. The potpies were a hit with the adults and the peanut butter and jelly sandwich platter for the kids--although all the kids had stomach aches afterward from overeating all the goodies!

Also, we always do Bengal BBQ for a quick snack during the day. Grab a couple skewers and some Tiger Tails (bread pretzels) and pass them around for a great snack!

I agree with you that the atmosphere at RDZ is nice--we were there right before the park closed and I'm sure it's that much nicer in the daytime. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime and have a salad.

And re: Pizza Port, I should have said that I didn't have pizza there; I had pasta and salad and got it to go (ate it while waiting for the fireworks) so I didn't think about the lack of atmosphere--it is pretty noisy.

Thanks for bringing up some good points! :)

You know my brother ate there a couple of weeks ago just before park closing and said it was awful! He said the enchiladas tasted like they were old and had been sitting there for days. Mexican food is one of those foods that doesn't do well under a heat lamp. So I guess the moral of the story with Rancho is to not go late! And I was embarrassed because I told him how good it was!

As for the pizza at Pizza Port its not great but its not bad. Now the pizza at Disneyworld is so awful it makes Pizza Port's look gourment!

What about having lunch at the Golden Horseshoe, when we went there to see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies it was the best lunch we had at DL. We ordered the chili-fries but looking at everyone around us it seemed that the chicken fingers were a real favorite. The desserts were very good, my dd and dh had a cheesecake parfait and I ordered the chocolate cake because I had read so much about it on these boards. The chocolate cake lived up to its name, it was HUGE! Probably the biggest piece of cake I have ever been served. We took it with us back to the hotel and dd snacked on it for days LOL plus Billy Hill was one of our favorite things to see in DL.

Just wanted to echo what others have said. Rancho is not good, way overpriced for food barely above fast food quality. Pizza Port we like, not for the pizza, but the salads and chicken fussili. We like Ariel's grotto, especially if you have girls princess: . The food is pretty good and the view very, very nice. I would skip Strip/Chips/Dip - blech. The giant corn dogs are really good if you like that kind of thing. Also, Bengal BBQ is more like a "light meal" to me, one skewer of meat and one veggie skewer with a drink is about $10, tastes real good, but not super filing. Carnation Cafe and Rainforest Cafe are two favorites. You know we also love Whitewater Snacks outside the Grand. A childs meal fills me up and I am a pretty big eater. Or DH & I split an adult meal with an extra side salad or fruit cup. Wonderful, fresh and inexpensive food, you should try it. Good luck deciding! :)

I didn't read all the replies. How is Club Buzz? We have two small children. Will they enjoy it? As for the list, there are a lot places on there that we will be eating at. Have a great trip!

Stay away from the Club Buzz dining location. The only reason to eat there before was to catch the show with kids and that is gone now. The area is super crowded and the food is pretty gross. There is nothing "special" there that is buzz related anymore. You will be more relaxed and enjoy food better at other locations. If you want a buger IN Disneyland Park, go over to the Hungry Bear. You can get a seat by the Rivers of America or walk towards the back area where it is empty and possibly see a kitten or two. :)

We really liked White Water in the GCH for an inexpensive meal. I especially enjoyed the chicken burger, the rest of the family had cheeseburgers.

You mean, other then Buzz! My kids thought it was pretty fun watching him dance. Buzz is my sons idol. He wouldnt go near him, he just had to watch from afar. It was just too much for him to handle. Buzz, in person!
