And the really bad thing for a library is that I've heard that bedbugs can actually crawl into the books, even if they are closed, because of how small they are. They are going to need to heat/steam all those books to make sure they are not infested.

Our movie theater had them and some of the stores in the mall. The high school in town has them as well, but they are keeping that quiet.

Are you in Huntington? Central Islip was closed for almost a week a little while ago. I can only imagine what the movie theaters are like. Over the summer I took dd8 to Ikea and she went into the kids club. When she came out she was crying that her neck was pinching her, and when I lifted her ponytail there was a bed bug on her neck I told the store manager, as in the kids club there were pillows, blankets and a ball pit. I never heard anythign in the paper or news, but rest assured she will NEVER be in that kids club again!!

Newsday today had the report the the Huntington library was closed due to bedbugs so Suffolk County is a definite on that one.

I've heard that some people are using the same seat covers that passangers some times use for airline seats on the theatre seats.

I think I'm heading out to NJ to see Harry Potter. I Googled NYC movie theatres last nite and one of the theatres I would have gone to had two chairs removed and replaced and was sprayed down because they found bed bugs in the two chairs.

That movie is going to be way too popular and there will be too many chances for cross contamination as people bring the bugs from work, hotel rooms, etc.

Yes, I wouldn't want other people getting the idea and sitting next to me in NJ with their "friends." No need to go all the way out to NJ just to end up bring the critters back with me.

I do think that Bloomberg needs to acknowledge that it is a city wide infesetation. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! Even in the schools now.
Yet, this isn't great news for tourism, so you don't hear him addressing the issue. However, it is affecting the entire city, and spreading quickly to the suburbs.
I do think that it's reach the point where a state/city government intervention would be helpful. In that perhaps extermination efforts could be cooridinated so that this infestation can be eradicated, rather than just having these disgusting bugs move next to your the neighbors apartment.
Efforts to date are the equivalent of putting a band aid on a bleeding artery.

Apparently they were never eradicated in many foreign countries..and with our using less toxic pesticides these days, they have re-appeared stronger than ever.

What little I read, and I don't know if this is accurate or not, but it is because the government outlawed the used of more deadly pesticides, that the bed bugs have been able to survive, multiply & get everywhere.
