Hi everyone i just thought i would share my day with you!

I have just had my dress fitting today and will be able to collect it on august 13th (3 weeks before wedding). I felt like a princess getting it all done, it feels so strange now that it is so close!

Hi everyone!

I bought my dress back in March and am supposed to go for a dress fitting for my December wedding sometime soon. I am trying to lose a few more pounds before i go for my fitting and then have the alterations done. 3 months before my wedding will be September 7th, 2005. As long as i go before then I will ok right? I will be going to David's Bridal as they need to fix a rip in the back of my dress that was there when the dress arrived.

PrincessMo - I bought my dress from David's Bridal also!! It is so exciting!! The one thing I will warn you about is that I've heard some scary stories about their alterations departments and bridal gowns... many messed up gowns, lost gowns, not ready until the week before the wedding sometimes later than that... I have not talked to a bride that brought her dress back there to get it altered that had a positive comment... I'm personally going to find a seamstress in my area and have her alter my gown... a few of my friends have recommended some to me. I'm going to ask for references and check up on them to see which one I'll go to... just wanted to let you know... it might just be the NY area... I'm not sure... I live in NJ and I haven't exactly had a wonderful experience with any of the ones I've been to... and I've been to several... just a thought... you have time to look around...

Thanks for the heads up happylalagirl. I am not sure what to do here because they told me when i come back for my alterations they would fix the rip in my gown with no charge. Now, if I go back and don't have my alterations will they still fix my gown which was their fault? Plus, I don't know anyone around here who could alter my dress. I figured david's bridal wound be best since they are familiar with my dress..it is very detailed. Any thoughts? I am very worried now.

I'll agree with the problems w/davids bridal alterations dept!! It happened to me and I wasn't able to pick up my dress until 3 days before my wedding!!! I went for my final fitting and they hadn't even touched my dress (and it had been several weeks). I had orignally purchased one and they told me it could be let out several inches (they had that size in the store at the time and were unable to locate the next size up). So, I bought my dress...it was 1 year before my wedding date. Well, went for first fitting and was told this was incorrect. Luckily they were able to find the dress in the next size in NY somewhere and had it sent to the store. So, I had the "second fitting" which was really the first as they couldn't do what I was told on the first dress. Went back again w/my MOH so she could see how to do bustle, etc (I had a very detailed back piece of the dress, so it was more complicated) and she hadn't even touched it, this was 2 weeks before my wedding!!
So needless to say, I was not happy and they did nothing about it. No response to letters, etc!! What if I had gone with my original plan and got married at WDW, I would have been down there 3 days before my wedding.
I took it all in stride (as this was the only headache of my entire wedding) My MOH was more stressed about it then I was.

I bought the dress for my first wedding there years ago...I simply told them my wedding date was a week or two BEFORE the real date. That way I was sure to have it back!

Hi there... I'm not sure what part of the world you live in... you could always ask some friends or see if a local tailor can help you... I found one from my hair stylist... they deal with so many brides, they hear of lots of seamstresses - good and bad... you could always just "google" it. Don't get stressed about it... you could do like one of the other girls said and tell them your wedding has been changed to a few weeks earlier... that way you're sure to get it back in time... I didn't mean to stress you out... just to be aware and weigh your options...

Thanks everyone I feel much better now. I think I will probably still take it there and tell them my wedding has been moved up a week. That way I will be sure to have it back. I want to take it there because of the rip in the back that they said they would fix for free since it was something that must of happened during shipping.

Hey there My sister and best friend both had her dress from Davids and had it altered there and was very happy! I am suppposed to pick mine up on August 10th so hopefully there will be three success stories!
