I bought a Coolpix L6 last March- by the summer it had died. Lens error. For some reason I thought there was only a 90 day warranty on it so I pretty much forgot about it. I happened upon the box it came in at the bottom of my closet a few weeks ago and the warranty card was in it. There is a 1 year warranty on it. After searching high and low for the sales receipt(I almost always stick them in a drawer) it finally turned up last week in with some other camera stuff. I packed that camera right up and sent it off to Nikon for repair! Now I'm glad I didn't throw it away. I just got confirmation from them that they received it and it will be repaired for $0.00 I like that.

Free is good.

My P&S quit on me during a trip in the Fall. We called the manufacturer and they didn't even request a receipt. In many cases, they'll just take your word. In other cases, they can tell based on the make/model that it is still in warranty. So if your camera quits working, don't hesitate to call even if you don't have the receipt.

Also, we order almost everything online. I can pull up an invoice for anything I've ordered from B&H, Amazon, or Newegg in the last several years. I actually won "the who placed the most orders with Amazon last year argument at our office on Friday. I won with right around 100 orders in 2007. Gotta love Prime.

I just got confirmation from them that they received it and it will be repaired for $0.00 I like that.

I'd actually be surprised if the camera was actually repaired. It's more likely to be simply replaced with a refurbished model from inventory.

Did you record the serial number berfore shipping it?

I do have the serial number but at this point a refurbished one wouldn't be bad.
