Born in June 1992, my sweet Bethany was 18 years old. She had hyperthyroidism and was completely deaf at the end but still had a good quality of life. Until this morning when she had 4 (at least, that I witnessed) seizures. Took her to the vet knowing this could be the end. The vet said there was a big mass in her stomach, a tumor, probably cancer, which is probably what was causing the seizures. Her back legs wouldn't work either. There wasn't much chance of her recovering, or if she did, who knows how much longer...so I decided to let her go. :(

This came on SO suddenly...last night she was fine. Well, fine for her anyway. Now she is gone. :(

I have four other cats but of course no one can ever take the place of my Bethany, my first kitty. We had gone through so much together!

I have spent all day crying off and on...sometimes just tears, sometimes hysterics. This is so painful. I loved her so much. I hope she knew that.

Hoping in time things will get better. Goodbye my sweet girl. Hope to see you on the other side someday. :sad1:

I hope she knew that.

These posts always make me cry, as I have lost 2 cats. I held it together until I read this line! I had the same feelings when my cats died...I loved them so much, they were my children. It's been 3 years and 1 year and I still cry for them both every once in a while.

Just know that she had a great, happy life because of you...and you were blessed to have her in your life for the amount of time that you did. As painful as it still is for me, I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to have had those 7 years with Kitty and 9 years with Jack.

I hope that Kitty and Jack will be there for your Bethany at the rainbow bridge today.

 I'm so sorry. They become such a part of our lives.

I'm sorry for your loss. Our cat Charlotte lived 17 years, and the last five she was diabetic. Which really didn't turn out to be a big deal. When you have a pet for that long they literally grew old as your family grows up. It sure does leave an empty space in your heart.
Take comfort in that your kitty had a good life, and you did the right thing for her. She left you with beautiful memories.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. I'm just glad to hear she had a good life till the end. My own cat is 18, and just now starting to look old; I know she doesn't have much longer, but I do take comfort in knowing that she's had a wonderful life. It's true, when you've had a cat that long they've really gone through so much with you.

I am so sorry.

It's so hard to lose a pet. After Fergie passes on (she's 18 as well), I am not getting anymore cats. I couldn't go through the heartbreak again.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I have 2 cats (brother and sister) who are 12 and can't imagine losing them. I'm sorry you are so sad and can't imagine what it must feel like.

We understand your love and grief, KatelynnsAuntie, and offer you a gentle hug tonight. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry. As I just told another poster cats are miraculous beings! She knew.

 So sorry to hear about your kitty. It's so hard especially when you have them so long. It's been almost a year since I lost my kitty, she was 19 1/2. I still miss her like crazy.

Thank you all for all your kind words. It's comforting to know that others know how I feel, and recognize just how much a part of the family these little fur balls become. I am very very grateful for the time I had with her...she had a good long life. I just wish it didn't hurt so much when they go. :(

I am so sorry for your loss  Pets are truly a part of our families and I, too, choose to believe we will see them again :goodvibes I love the Rainbow Bridge story as I find great comfort in it

I know EXACTLY how you feel...two weeks ago today I had to take my 19 yo cat to the vet because he had stopped eating for a few days. He too had thyroid problems and has been on medication for approx two years. He had a massive amount of fluid built up in his chest cavity and was having trouble breathing.

We decided it was time to put him to sleep and have been crying ever since. I have to go to the vet today to pick up his ashes and can't bring myself to do it:sad1:. They have been around so long and you take it for granted that they will always be waiting in the kitchen for you in the am for some foodies...
