My Kitchen Aid Mixer Won't Turn On

I bought a Kitchen Aid at Costco 4 years ago (replaced a 10-year old 5 quart model whose motor I killed). I have used it extensively. I make bagel dough in it 2x / week. I also use it for cookies, cake, frosting, and whipped cream. Tonight after a long and pretty awful day, I tried to turn it on to make pizza dough and it wouldn't turn on. I tried a different outlet but nothing.

So, I'm trying to figure out what to do. Repair? Replace (with another Kitchen Aid or something else)?

I've had a terrible few months financially. Replaced my roof, repaired my sprinkler system, just had $1,000 of siding replaced, minor car accident that I didn't want to claim (cost $1,650). And it's been almost 2 years since my ex has felt like supporting our children. So I really don't want to spend $300. But I don't know how to function without a stand mixer.

Costco is known to have a great return policy even after the warranty is up. I would at least try, you don't need a receipt. If they don't have a similar model they will give you a cash refund.

I have heard good things about Kitchen Aid's customer service as well, it can't hurt to contact them and see if they can help.

That's an interesting idea. I'd have to go to the Costco in the next county over, though : )

Well, if I bought something 4 years ago I wouldn't try to take it back to the store I got it from, I'd just contact the manufacturer to see if they could help me out. I wouldn't expect a free repair or replacement (not saying you are OP) but I'd reach out to see how much a repair might be and if there was a local repair shop I could take it to.
I don't have a stand mixer but I hope to get one eventually, best of luck OP, I hope your mixer is working again soon!

Good news! When our laptop wasn't charging I realized there was something wrong with the outlets. The carpenters who were replacing siding tripped the GFCI in my kitchen. Not sure why I didn't think about that.

I did hand knead bagel dough this morning--that's good exercise.

In bad news, I thought I'd lose the five pounds I want to lose before putting on a swimsuit by not baking. Now I'll have to rely on will power.

Can verify Costco return policy. I had a k-cup coffee maker that quit after several years. I couldn't find the receipt. They said no problem just bring it back all our sales are computerized. Sure enough they refunded without question.

Electronics (computer, cameras, tv) the exception is 90 days.

Are you 100% sure the GFCI circuit in your kitchen isn't tripped? All the outlets in my kitchen stop working if the circuit trips, and none of them work until I reset the outlet with the button. Maybe this is your problem and you don't need to worry about your mixer??

Costco definitely has a very generous return policy. I called them a few months ago because our sound system that we purchased wasn't working properly and I couldn't remember if it had been longed than a year since we purchased it. They said they weren't even going to bother looking it up on their computer and to just bring it in there wouldn't be a problem returning it regardless of when it was from

My sister had a desk chair that had broken and again took it back thinking it had been maybe 2-3 years since purchase. After returning it she found out that it had been 5 years and they gave her her cash back without an any question.

That is really one of the best things about Costco but I will add that I have rarely had a need to return something there. The sound system was one item and an ihome clock radio was another.

My mom works there and says that you should see the things that people return!
