My kid's school wants them to dress up from the 1800's in a couple of weeks. They are really putting the pressure on but it is optional. Does anyone have any ideas for cheap easy to put together clothing from the 1800's for a girl and a boy? Our state is celebrating it's 200th anniversary. The teachers are all going to be wearing clothing from the 1800's. Help!!!!!

I knew you were in Ohio!
In 1970 my elementary school was 100 years old and we did the same thing. Luckily my sister (5th grade then) and I (1st grade) had two grandmas who could sew. If my kids were asked to do this, I'd run to the costume shop!;) But it was a lot of fun and I have good memories.
Try looking at the American Girl site--I believe Felicity is late 1700s, which is pretty close to 1803--Kirsten is 1854. That might give you some ideas.

There are two outfits on this page (one boy, one girl) in pioneer style. They are pricey to buy but it gives you an idea of what you could do. The boys outfit looks like you could just do a pair of slacks, shirt, with a little vest over it....not a whole lot different than what boys wear today for dress up. The girls outfit looks like you could take any basic dress and just sew a quick apron and bonnet. If you sew, those would be easy! Even if you don't sew you could still cut the pattern and just glue the seams instead of sewing.

I was going to say the same thing IntenseBlue. A long dress with a pinafore and a bonnet ought to work for a girl.

What fun. We never got to do fun things like this when I was in school. They were too busy measuring our skirt length to make sure it was no more than 1 1/2 inches above our knees

DS wore his dads white tuxedo shirt and I took a pair of his longer lenght shorts (or those zip pants would work) and i put a piece of elastic thru the hem, gathered it up and wahlaa, he had knickers. he wore his soccer socks and a pair of black dress shoes.

My DS had pioneer day last year. We did pants, a plain button down shirt, rolled up the sleeves, and a pair of wide suspenders and a wide brimmed hat. I went for the "Pa" look from Little House. The girls I saw had on long calico looking skirts with white aprons, plain button down blouses, and bonnets. Of course the boys and girls all had on sneakers...they were really cute. They all learned how to play games from the 1800's and they had a blast.
