Will Apple provide the owner's name and/or if we send it to them will they send it to the owner? We can't get it to charge so I think it got hit by the rain storm yesterday but if the owner has the extended care they still might want it back.

I would think they could get it to the owner. When you first plug your iPod into your computer, it automatically reads the serial number and you have to register it. They would have that info on file. Give them a call. I think the number is 800-MY-APPLE.

If you think it got wet- stick it in a ziplock bag with rice. It will dry it out.

The bag of rice trick does work! DD14 dropped her phone in the toilet, we were driving from CA to ID (10 hours) and we were about halfway thru our drive. We asked DD23 to have a bag of rice waiting for us and we put the phone in the bag overnight, it powered up the next day with no problems at all and DD14 has been using it since! That happened over a month ago. :) Good luck! I hope you find the owners!

Do you have an Apple store near you? I would call and see what they say.

Try and bag of rice trick!

Kudos for returning it!

Thanks for responses. I'm trying to return it as a lesson to my kids because well, what goes around comes around. :goodvibes Oldest DS lost his ipod at a ski resort and someone found it and turned it into the resort and they kindly returned it to him. But his still worked and it had his name programed into it and the resort had his name on file as a guest so their work was easy. I was hoping this one would still work and that my task would be as easy. No such luck. I'm going to try the phone first since the nearest Apple store is about 45 minutes away. I've been there but it's a pain to get to and I'm really busy so that's kind of out at least this week anyway. But if I don't get any response by phone I'll try that. The mall that has the Apple Store is really nice. :rolleyes1

You could also post on Craig's List that you found an Ipod, and where you found it. People can respond to your ad via email and they can describe the ipod, and some of the music or photos they have on it. Might be an outside chance that Apple has an old phone number or address for the owner.
