Something's just weird - it doesn't really hurt, but I get occasional pains from my ear to my jaw. I feel like I can't chew my food right. If this continues, I don't know whether to call my doctor or my dentist. Any advice?

I would start with the dr to rule out an ear infection, etc. then move on to the dentist to check for a cavity, TJM, etc.

If there are no other symptoms I'd say try to get into your dentist. BUT if you have other problems like sinus problems see your Dr. Strangely enough jaw pain can be related to cardiac problems too.

I had orthodontia as a child. My son has a cold, so at first I thought maybe it was a sinus thing I had no other symptoms for yet - but I still feel fine several days later. It sounds like Dr. may be the way to go. I think I'll hold off a bit and wait to see if other symptoms develop. I just found a TMJ website that described my symptoms (just feeling llike my bite is off, occasional dull pain) and said if it persists longer than a few weeks to see a Dr.

Unfortunately, the website confirmed my fear that insurance can be an issue. Medical passes you to Dental and visa versa.

Thanks - it helps just to say it "outloud". I haven't even gotten around to mentioning it to dh because it seems like such a weird whiny thing.

I know my sinuses are clogged when my back teeth hurt. I also had pain behind my ear down my neck. Again, sinuses. Pesky things!!!

Hope you feel better soon.

I know this is a long shot, but last year I had jaw pain running from my jaw to my temple. It turned out to be a Carotid Migraine, which I guess is rare. Nothing serious but painful. I have also had impacted saliva glands which hurt my jaw and my cheeks swell. I get weird illnesses!

I had this exact same thing a few monthes ago.
I couldn't close my teeth all the way down to touching each other.
It hurt my ear when I yawned.
It hurt to chew anything chewy, and it just felt like I couldn't chew my food properly. It felt dislocated. weird

Went to the doctor, nothing wrong with my ear.
Went to the dentist, first he ground down a high tooth. Then he pulled my jaw around, and he said I pulled a ligament in my jaw.
He said-No gum or taffy or anything chewy for 3 monthes (I used to have a pack of gum a day habit--now it is certs and tic-tacs!!)
Take Advil or Motrin (anti-immflamatory)
Wait.
Mine went away after about a week.

It is not fun though. The pain that shot up to my ear was soooo painful. I feel your pain!!

I get headaches sometimes that tend to be on the left side of my face then I feel a little pain on the left side of my face around my nose, then my left ear, then finally into my jaw on the left side of my face where it stops. doctors never figured out what causes it. Thought it was complications from wisdom teeth extraction but it wasn't. Thought it was migraines but it wasn't and it turns out it isn't exactly sinus problems either :confused3
