my II request.....?

I put in a request last week for an II exchange at one of the Royal Resorts in Cancun for the week of Feb. 17 - 24, 2007 (we own at BVC). There wasn't an immediate match but MS said it was still pretty early and something would probably come through.

I'm still just a bit fuzzy about II since this was our first request. If nothing comes through, do I have to keep my points in II and look for another match at the same place...can I look elsewhere or can I have the points put back into my account?

Unless you did a "deposit first" (very few do it this way), the points are still in your account. You don't commit them until you accept a match.

Ah....you're right! I guess I knew that when I initiated the search through MS, but then I forgot. My husband was worried that if nothing came through than we lost the option of still using those points for BVC.

I do like the fact that it allows you to keep all options open.

I can't believe I keep saying BVC when I mean BCV :confused3

So what is the significance of deposting the points into II first, if you don't really have to?

Most who opt for that are using points that will expire before they can use them. If you deposit first, you have quite a while to find a match before you lose the week. It's a way to entend the life of your points.

Now it makes sense.

Don't think we'll ever experience our points expiring before we can use them ;)

Just FYI, it took about two weeks for our match with Royal Caribbean to come through. We booked it in December for this coming November, and we were given a two-bedroom for the points of a one-bedroom. Now I'm trying to convince friends to come with us so that extra room isn't sitting empty! :)

Wow...what a deal! That's good to know.

A friend of mine owns at one of the Royal resorts and she says theyr'e wonderful. We've gone down and stayed in an all-inclusive but since we're taking the kids this time, I like the option of having a kitchen available. That plus I think this will cost us less.

Feb is a much harder time than Nov. You'll only get the 2 BR for a 1 BR price if your searching for a 1 BR. And it's likely that many deposits for that time have come and gone already. As noted, you don't have to give up or even keep the points available to have an ongoing search. You just have to have access to the points when the match comes through. The only time to do a deposit first is if you have points that will expire and you want to use the for a deposit. Otherwise it's FAR better to do search first. The Royals are great resortsl, I hope you get your match.

Hey Dean,

Now that I've entered our request and paid the $75 fee, what happens to that fee if they don't find a match for us? Are we allowed to add to the search (say more destinations for that week or alternative weeks for the Royal Resorts) just to give us a better chance?

I do want to give ourselves a couple of options, but as always, we're limited to the kids' time off.

It's refundable, as it is in most every other situation. The only time I wouldn't think it's refundable is if they offer you what you asked for then you say know. There is no absolute answer on the refund-ability as it's handled on a case by case basis. You can add, change, cancel even change the areas you're looking for it you want. No additional fee.
