My idea for the Dining Plan...

Here's what I think Disney should do:

Cut out the distinction between "snack," "quick service," and "table service" credits. Just give general credits and allow guests to use them as they'd like. Different types of meals would cost a different number of credits.

Snacks- 1 dining credit
Quick/Counter service- 2 dining credits
Table service- 3 dining credits
Signature meals- 5 dining credits

Regular dining plan- 6 dining credits per night. You can use them however you'd like, but it would be enough for 1 snack, 1 counter service and 1 table service meal.

Premium dining plan- 9 dining credits per night. Again, you can use them however you'd like, but it would be enough for 2 table service and 1 counter service meal.

This way, you wouldn't have to worry about how many TS vs. Snack vs. QS credits you have left. If you'd prefer to eat all Quick/Counter service or all Table service, you could. Or if you want to live off nothing but Mickey Bars, you could.

Oh, and I think Cinderella's Royal Table should be 10 dining credits cause Disney can charge whatever they want for that and we'll still be up at the crack of dawn trying to make ADRs :rotfl:

It's kind-of like the old "declining balance" plan back at college. I think, though, that the numbers are way off, relative to the value delivered. If a Snack is 1 credit, then CS needs to be 3 credits, TS needs to be about 7 credits, and Signature needs to be 12 credits.

Regular dining plan- 6 dining credits per night. You can use them however you'd like, but it would be enough for 1 snack, 1 counter service and 1 table service meal.
So that would translate into 11 credits per day allocation, at about $40 per person.

Translated to 17 credits per day allocation, at about $62 per person.

The present dining plan is simple. The credit system makes sense but would be harder to explain. Bicker hit the numbers about right. A credit system would allow Disney to "fine tune" the plan and charge a credit or two less for meals like Boma and a credit or two more for a la carte restaurants like Le Cellier and Chefs de France.

Of course we could go to the next step. Each "credit" is worth a dollar. A guest gets 50 credits per day and pays $38. Disney could even include free fountain soda and coffee.

Hey, I never said it was perfect ;)

I like your plan, but one problem i see with the 6 credit daily plan is, if a TS is only 3 credit, that would allow a person to go to 2 TS a day and nothing else. Just one, with a drink, Main Course, and App, and tax/tip is usually over $40 already, now if you allow a person to do that twice a day, they would lose money then, and alot.. I could see people eating Lunch and then dinner again at the higher priced places, like Le Cellier, and getting $100 meals a day for the $40 Disney is getting and I dont think the Mouse would like that....

I like the general idea of your plan.:thumbsup2 Our family would be able to maxamize the value of a plan like that much more than the current DP. I also think it would be good (albiet confusing for some) if you could purchase a different number of credits for each person. For example, DH would be able to buy more credits than DD and DS as he generally eats more.

I love your idea.:thumbsup2 We'd be all over one signature, one TS and one snack = 9 ...but I think it would end up frustrating too many guests.

People already seem to have trouble tracking 1 TS/QS/snack per night.:rotfl:

I love it from the consumer stand point. :thumbsup2 Disney would not love it from the business aspect. :sad1:

That, in itself, is probably the most significant condemnation of her plan. Given what we know, whatever changes they make must necessarily be revenue neutral, or revenue positive.

Actually what the OP describes is similar to a long gone incarnation of the dining plan....anyone remember the old "Food and Fun" cards??

They were my favorite ever dining plan. For a set amount per day per person (and you still had to purchase for every member of your party for the entire length of stay) you got a food credit. It was about $45/day /person to purchase the plan and as I recall and you got $50 of food credit that could be used anywhere, anytime during your stay and you also got unlimited use of water craft, minigolf, bikes, etc (that was the fun part of the Food and Fun card)....it was great!!

I love the OP's idea...I've actually had the same one in my head!! :rotfl2: W:rotfl2: With a basic credit system, you could use the credits however you like. For instance, we would probably use more snacks for bottled water, milk and fruit at breakfast, and desserts/pastries. If other people only want to do TS, then they could use their credits that way, as that would be plenty of food!

Disney - Listen to this OP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a good idea too with a few tweaks as Bicker suggested to make it a good value for both us and Disney. Might clear out a few of the TS places as many families might find eating three CS meals to be better suited for them.

Using the credits to pay for other entertainment options such as golf, movies etc. would be a real improvement also. Maybe. Gotta think on that one a bit. Any time you add value for some the price goes up for ALL.

I also like the idea of all buffet restaurants having a special colored plate where people who buy that can only get ONE serving of food. That is all I ever eat anyway. They might have to install some sort of level to keep folks from piling food up a foot or so though. There is always someone who will push the envelope.

Slightly Goofy

Ha, I've been saying this ever since I started figuring out our TS/CS and snacks for November. I thought I was so original

Of course, the powers that be at Disney would have to figure this all out from their stand point but I think it could work.

To the poster who said people are already confused the way it is - I think this would actually be easier to navigate. Once the "point system" was determined for each type of meal, it would be simple math to figure out what and where you wanted to eat for your stay.

I like this apprach a lot. We woould use it for 2 TS a day, breakfast and dinner. I know someone said about two TS a day is 2 appitisers, entrees etc, but that would be simply too much, but a sit down breakfast with dinner and not having to pay for the sports etc would be great.

It wousl also allow some flexabilty for some restruants to charge extra 'credits' for premium items, such as bringing back duck etc.
