My husband needs help!!

My sweet husband is in the midst of studying for the bar exam which he takes a week before we take our first family trip to WDW!!! Needless to say, that doesn't leave much time to plan for my 30th birthday which happens to be the same day that we arrive at WDW. Can anyone give him a hint/pointer/starting point??? I should say that we don't land until almost 5. Thanks for your input!

I guess if it were me, I'd let my husband focus on his bar exam, and plan something myself to do for my 30th (I just had mine, too by the way!). It sounds like he has a lot on his plate. Maybe you could book a Wishes cruise for your first night there if your family won't be too tired. If the first night doesn't work out, you could book the TS of your choice the next day. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice- I will check out Wishes. I am completely letting him focus on the bar, however when he takes a MUCH needed break (after studying 12 hours a day), he wanted to plan something and he didn't think he should wait until the week right before we leave. So he asked me to post this so that he could get good advice from more experienced DIS'ers.

I've been through this 3 times (3 states), and the thing to do is take a rain check on your birthday. If this is his first bar, he won't be realizing that in some ways the hard part starts AFTER the two days of testing; the wait to hear the results can be nerve-wracking. (We were in Europe while waiting for DH's last set; he had trouble not thinking about it long enough to enjoy the trip.)

Just sit him down and tell him that you really appreciate it that he wants to do something nice for you, but that for the benefit of the family, he shouldn't worry about it -- he's going to be stressed out enough with the bar to concentrate on. If he wants to give you a make-up occasion later on, that's a good option.

Tell him that you will pick your favorite WDW restaurant and make the reservation; all he needs to do is show up and pay the tab. Then write down all the info including the restaurant's phone number and have him put it away in his wallet. If he wants to call them once the pressure is off and arrange something special, then he'll have everything he needs to do it.

I would do the Disney florist or Peggys Sweets and More for a nice arrival basket or flowers.

And since he's so busy I think he would like you to pick them out for yourself.

I would plan my own 30th and tell him he can do the 35th or 40th up in grand style! He'll be a lawyer by then and can do it right!

Tell him the only present you want his for him to pass. Then go on your vacation and celebrate. Both your birthday and him passing.

Almost Happy Birthday BTW! I would tell him you will celebrate your bday at a later time. My hubby and I got married one week after he graduated from Law School and he had to start studying for the bar immediately after so we put off our honeymoon until he passed the exam. Or maybe you could just make an ADR for a nice restaurant as a celebration of his being done with the bar and your bday! Have fun!

My suggestion is the two of you walk down by the Boardwalk. It is so lively and fun there! There are plenty of places you can stop to eat, get and ice cream, have a drink, etc...it is one of my favorite "free" places to go at WDW! No muss - no fuss!

Go to DTD and have a drink and celebrate that everything is over and you can enjoy your vacation. I would say just let the Bday go. Call your resort and let them know. Sometimes, they will do something special for you....snack or such. But, I would just enjoy the vacation....

Good luck to your DH! You don't have to skip celebrating your b-day. My DH called ahead and arranged room service breakfast for Mother's Day. He said it was totally easy. We stayed at the Poly and he just called the hotel directly beforehand and spoke with room service. It was a total surprise and was great - it was our first morning at WDW (we got in around 1pm Saturday) and was a really nice day to start the day/trip.

p.s. I just had to edit and add in here...so many folks are saying you should let your hubby study and forget your b-day. I have been through 5 steps of medical boards, studying like crazy night and day each time and believe me, I welcomed some brief interruptions - and would have especially liked one to plan something for an upcoming WDW trip And, afterwards, I never worried and worried about results - what is done is done, so I am sure he will be glad to do whatever he is able to plan for you while in WDW and enjoy!!!

I would suggest a fireworks cruise as well but to spare your DH during this stressful time, I would say to make the ressies yourself...by the time you get to Disney, I am sure that the both of you will be relieved the months of studying are over and you can relax and enjoy!

can't you give him a pass on your birthday this year, the bar is stressful enough, especially after when you wait for the results, give him a break, the entire family will benefit from his accomplishments right? Would it be so bad to just enjoy disney and not plan anything for your b day, there's always next year. I am not saying your birthday is not important, just take a pass.
