We had planned on flying in on nye and staying at the swan on nye and then moving to wilderness lodge for 4 days. My husband is freaking out that wdw closed the mk at 9 :45 am and that the proximity to mk will actually be a problem as we will need to take buses to go to epcot. He has a real issue with crowded buses, says that they are like cattle cars. So now he wants to switch back to swan for the entire trip. I say that we stay the course and if the parks are too crowded rent water mice and motor past cinderellas castle. Any thoughts or ideas? We have two children 4 and 7.

Personally I would not want to be switching resorts with two small kids for a trip that short of duration. I would stay at either one or the other the whole time. I think the Swan would have better transportation options to Epcot and MGM. I really don't enjoy taking that slow boat to the MK and busses to all the other resorts. I loved the Dolphin on our last trip, preferred it over the Beach Club. We like to get into the parks fast and spend a lot of time there. We would even cut through Epcot to take the monorail to MK.

well, count me as one who avoids crowded buses. You do have other options besided switching hotels (which might not even be an option at this late date). Use a taxi, book a towncar service or limo, rent a car even if just for the one day you think you might need it, (you can rent onsite) take the boat to MK and then take the monorail to the TTC and then to Epcot, there are other permutations of Disney transportation as well. I think you can find things to do (like the watermice, good choice) even when the MK is busy. I also think the crowds will start to let up each day after NYE. Tell him they will all have already been to the MK by then, LOL.

I do not think that the crowds can be avoided this week, anywhere at WDW. It is the most crowded week of the year! I went once during Christmas/New Years, and it made me nutso. If DH does not like crowds, this is not the time to be there. If it is just crowds on buses he dislikes, why not just rent a car? Though Disney transportation is excellent, we do not often use it. We like to visit different resorts for dining and entertainment, so we always rent a car. It is just simply easier and faster for us.

I would definitely get up early and take advantage of EE while you are there, and spend some time enjoying the Wilderness Lodge! It is a magnificient hotel, and the theme just transports you! I wouldn't think that changing hotels would benefit you in any way, unless of course, you happen to prefer the Swan.

Have a wonderful time at WDW! :D

We also HATE the buses!! That is why we prefer the Yacht and Beach!!! We have stayed at he Dolphin but we did not like it, it felt to "conventiony" to us!! This is only our opinion!!!
Boardwalk is nice also!!
have fun!!! :)

You could stay at the Contemporary and walk to MK and ride the monorail to EPCOT. Very convenient!

Wouldn't it be easier to take the resort monorail to TTC or walk to TTC to get on the Epcot monorail. I don't see how walking to MK then riding over to TCC to transfer over to the Epcot monorail would be helpful.

RENT A CAR!! My husband absolutely hates crowded buses and waiting especially with 2 tired kids. For $25 a day you can have the wonderful convenience of a car. The aggravation you will save will be worth every penny!::MinnieMo

If your husband is freaking out about the crowds at WDW, then you should consider a different date or go somewhere else. He won't be happy, and your trip wil be a failure.:crazy2:

Just returned from WL- would not miss that "holiday" feel for anything. We were there over Thanksgiving and did not have any transporatation issues. It was a great resort!!!!

The reality is that all theme parks are crowded on NYE because everyone goes for Christmas and New Year's. After that, the crowds start to diminish.

You said, "My husband is freaking out that wdw closed the mk at 9 :45 am and that the proximity to mk will actually be a problem as we will need to take buses to go to epcot." Could you rent a car to go from place to place? Remember though that the Epcot parking lot will be crowded too. And Downtown Disney will be crowded too. Universal will be crowded as well. The only places that won't be crowded are Great Adventure and Kings Dominion.

It is highly likely that you won't be able to change your hotel reservations at this late date. But, if you want to stay at the Swan the whole stay, someone better check with the Swan asap to see if it is possible.

The remaining four days will not be as crowded as NYE, and the parks won't likely close for capacity after NYE, but they will still be crowded. Whether you are staying at the Swan or WL, the parks will still be crowded.

Would the crowds bother the kids? Most 4 and 7 yr olds just want to "go see Mickey" and don't care that much about crowds, just the fact that they are at WDW is enough.

Hi,

We're leaving tomorrow morning as well - staying at the Dolphin. We looked at changing resorts at one point, but there were "no rooms at the inn" for NYE. You're stuck for that night.

I wouldn't mess around with switching hotels, though. I'd stick with where you'll be on NYE and set up camp for the week.

We've also rented a car when staying on property. It's the greatest, but I know it isn't the most fiscally sound decision to make.

Either way, enjoy the trip. Maybe I'll be in line next to you at some point!!!

Denise
