First thoughts are great my step daughter and her family live there and a lot more family. My next thoughts are BIG I grew up in a town with 4,000 people the next town 11 miles away is 6,000. So now I live 80 mile away and in a town of 80,000 people. and the towns here are spread out. miles apart and in the detroit area the are compacted together. I have been there for vacations. Im worried about the schools? and the Crime? And it seems like no one I know has a high school education? I really want to get to a place where my husband can get a great pay. great pay here is 10.00 an hour.

The only family here is my mom dad and sister they live 80 miles away and we only see them four times a year. But moving from them will be hard, but my husband left his family in michigan to move out here with me.

we are planning on going to michigan this summer to look at apartments. His job said if he wants it to be there by Aug.

I live in the Detroit area. Do not let what you see on the news scare you. Since I don't know what part of the Metro Detroit area you would be moving to I really can't tell you anything about the schools. Some of the cities have really good schools and some aren't so good. Do your homework, talk to your DH's family they should be able to help you out. Good Luck

Ann Arbor, Walled Lake, and Clarkston,

All of my in-laws live in either that area or a little closer to Flint. My BIL and SIL live in Ypsilanti which is right near Ann Arbor and it's very nice. They have HUGE lots there and the housing prices are very good. SIL works in Ann Arbor at UofM hospital and it's about a 35 min. drive. depending on traffic.

I sent you a PM with my thoughts. I live in the N.E. Suburbs of Detroit. As Captain Fink posted, some school districts are good, & some not so good.

What we did when we moved here from Los Angeles was rent an apartment until we knew which area we really wanted to settle in. Of course we already knew which school district we were interested in since we had family here who guided us, but we did wait a year before we purchased a home because we wanted to be sure it was where we really wanted to be. We love our area.

Now for the down side....after living in L.A. with sooooooo much to do, it is very boring here.

I think A squared is a very nice area (although my Ohio State Buckeye blood hates to admit it ;) ). There are many options around Ann Arbor that are nice and small town, yet very close to AA itself--Saline, Manchester, Chelsea! Great little towns within minutes. Crime, in that area, would not be a major concern and the schools in the areas I mention are good, too.

Good luck whatever you decide. ;)

We live in the downriver area (South of Detroit, along the Detroit river). It is quite nice and the area is building up rapidly. I grew in Grand Blanc, a suberb of Flint. It is also a nice area. Just ask around the boards. You will get lots of help.
