I love Disneyland, so when we decided to go on a cruise out of Long Beach for our birthday that left Jan 11 and our Bithday is on the 10th how could we not go for free the day before. It was perfect! So I thought. I have had so many wonderful moments at disneyland, that will be in my memory forever but this was not one of them. They didn't do the rope drop inside main street like I'm used too but had us wait in line outside until 9am when the gates open. Then there were no characters to greet us! None! The only character I saw all day was Mickey at his house. The line for the princesses and fairies were crazy and my husband refused since we didn't have the kids. When did they start keeping the characters behind walls? This was crazy. Then when I went to get in line for Pooh I was told sorry but they are going in. So much for the magic Happy Birthday Buttons, no exceptions I guess. Then we get on Splash Mountain which breaks down right when we get on, so we have to wait 20min to be assisted off the 3 feet we went. Really? I couldn't just see myself off or the guy at the booth 2 feet away couldn't help us off? Then I made my husband wait in line 2 hours for Nemo, since it was new, It was the same as 2000 under the sea 20 years ago but with plastic cut outs of nemo. He was mad (keep it mind it's his b-day also), I was o.k., not a big thrill but I didn't have an expectation. Our favorite resturant is the Blue Bayou so we kept looking forward to that. We showed up 15 min before our reservation, where we found out they no longer serve our favorite deep fried cheese cake (It was too die for), we always wait extra for a table for 2 by the water to make it romantic, well they seated us at the last table on the water in the corner by the kitchen at a table for 4. I had it! My birthday was ruined! We left. I didn't go to city hall to complain because that would have been silly since we did get in free. But I was sad. I am praying that our trip next month to DW will be magical and special since it is costing me plenty! A CM told me that it was due to the economy and they couldn't afford more characters. I think it was just bad luck. My kids will be so sad if this is what DW will be like.

 I'm so sorry that your birthday didn't work out at Disneyland. There are those off days, but no one wants to be there when it happens, ESPECIALLY on a birthday!

I be you guys love WDW, though. It is so much bigger, and there is a lot to see. It's a different experience. (Oh, and go on the Nemo ride there at Epcot - it's so different than the submarine ride here & I bet you'll all love it - trust me). :flower:

That's sad to think you came away from "The Happiest Place on Earth" disappointed. I know the economy is hitting everyone hard, but no characters as they're throwing millions into remaking DCA??? How bout' keeping your employees...employed! We're going in early March & it's still considered the slower season....I'm getting nervous that we might not see any characters & a lot of construction walls/tarps up...... I'll stay optimistic & hopefully the magic will still be there!!
PS: Happy Late Birthday to you both!! :cake:

I've gone in March 3 years ago and had a wonderful time. Tons of characters. Even Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn that I had never seen before. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. You'll have to let me know about the new small World, I've heard mixed reviews. No Kids is a blast! I'm always surprided by how much more we get to see in a day. I hope you have a magical trip!
