My horse had major surgery yesterday. The doctors told me before we went in that it looked pretty bad, but we went ahead with the surgery, "just incase of a miracle" and a miracle we got. We're not out of the clear yet... there is still a worry that the incision will not stay closed, but they have her well taped up (with duct tape - of all things.) She's hooked up to an I.V. in a small stall for the next two days, and then 5 more days of stall rest without the I.V. (if everything goes well.)
There have been a lot of prayers said and I figured a little pixie dust wouldn't hurt either. If anyone has any extra PD, please send it this way. Thank you.

Prayers to you and your horse. Please keep us updated.

 Sending lots of good wishes and thoughts for your horse.

I know it's hard when our pets get sick. :( Keep us updated.

:wizard: :wizard: Pixie Dust for your horse and some   hugs for you.

I have my fingers crossed for you over here in UK.

I really hope your horse pulls through to a healthy recovery.

As an avid equestrian (wish I knew how to post photos!), I send my best wishes. Very scary!
Please keep us posted.

Yes, it was colic. Her intestine wasn't actually necrotic as they had thought before the surgery, but another piece of her was. Luckily that piece wasn't needed and they removed it, untwisted the intestines that had started to knot up and put her back together. Closing her up took as long as the actual surgery due to a thick layer of fatty tissue that no one expected to find. (She doesn't appear to be obese, yet they are worried that the incision may not heal properly because there was so much fat.)

I haven't seen her yet today (getting ready to leave for the hospital now) but I talked to the vet tech on the phone and they said that her condition is listed as stable. That's good :)
I'll post an update after I talk to the vets this afternoon. Thank you all for your well wishes.

Talli is looking as well as can be expected. I took her for a short walk around the hospital and she let me know when she was done. She's hooked up to an I.V. for the next few days and is not allowed to eat anything yet. She has several rolls of duct tape holding her belly together and I was informed that she may need to wear this kind of bandage for a few weeks.
She's showing her attitude - so I guess that's good, but she's also showing signs of pain, even though she gets pain meds 2X/day.
I can't go back until Thursday now, but I'm going to call twice a day, today and tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone that sent PD and prayers.

I'm glad to hear that your horse should be alright.

What's her name?

A good update there I think Mistie. Hoping your horse does well in the days/weeks ahead. Always tough when they are hurting.

Dee & Greg, if you need help, send me a pm or email.

Her show name is Turandot, but we call her Talli around the barn.
