and I think that I am going to go nuts. To make it short... I first started with a ressie for our Sept. trip at HOJOs. Then my dd (BD girl) begged for on site. I changed it to PPH. Then when I needed to add a night, they said that they could not, so off to DLH we went. We were on the 5/3 deal with APs. I have been watching the AP site and today saw that the PPH concierge was less than what I had DLH for (or could get it for). I have now switched to PPH concierge for $179 a night!!! Isn't that WILD!!!

I think you are very lucky !! us non Ap holders get high prices and it sucks. I tried to get into the PPH and the price was over the top for me.

Would buying one AP to get the rates make the total price come down for you?

CG, so many changes for you! :)

Wow!! Now my head is spinning. I was thinking if I should change my hotel reservations from PPH to DLH and now I am thinking of concierge level after reading your post. Just not sure the Costco pacakge I booked can be upgraded to the concierge level. If so, it probably will not be as good of a deal that you were able to get. =(

Anyway, I am so happy for you and I hope you enjoy your stay. That is great!

That is crazy! It's funny you mention this because within the last hour I was looking up some rates on the AP hotel calendar for one of our DIS-ers who is about to get an AP, and I encountered a weird phenomenon in that the DLH rate that was shown for one of the nights was higher than the GCH rate for that same night!!?? Also, the rates for late September are very reasonable at the PPH, but once you get into October, they hike up by almost $100 more. I am wondering if they are using last year's October mass bookings as an indicator that this year October will be packed and so they want to charge more money and not offer good AP rates. But the reason October was so booked last year is because of various discounts floating around and because of Miley Cyrus' b-day, etc. Extenuating circumstances. Without those same discounts and Miley's b-day, I am not sure they will see as many October hotel bookings as they did in 2008. Not at $221 per night for the PPH!:scared1: Are you kidding me? Not many people are going to pay that crazy rate, so hopefully they will come out with a good AP rate soon!

Why did PPH say they could not add a night to your initial reservation? Was that extra night all booked up or something? Normally, it seems they can do that sort of thing without a problem.

buying a AP would if I lived closer and could go there more often, but sad to say no :(

Well, as long as you've done the math...price to change one ticket to AP - price per night difference between normal rate and AP rate...that's a bummer. We had a package for our first big trip, and I held onto that package even though after a certain point I KNEW that the AP rate for the hotel would have saved us money, even after taking away the cancel fee. I just had to have that package! :rotfl: But we were already planning to upgrade to APs, so that $50 pp for me and hubby and something like $80 for DS was already budgeted...

We don't live that close (8 hours if you drive furiously and don't stop). We upgraded our parkhoppers to APs for the family. The cost difference paid for itself on a second trip with awesome AP hotel rates. All you need for the rate is one AP.

I asked about how the rate compared with doing the 5/3 package with concierge, but the agent said that concierge could not be booked with the 5/3 deal.

As experience tells us, change is good!!!

The week that we are there, there are two conventions at the hotels (one at DLH and one at GCH). I think that this is the reason for the weird Sept. prices. The agent today said that most of the std. views are booked, and that is why there are higher prices for std. As for why I think that I couldn't get the extra night at PPH before is that the agent didn't really know what she was doing. As far as Oct. rates go, there are many more people going for the Halloween activities. It was amazing how busy it was in mid-Oct. last year when we were there! This was after all of the Miley Cyrus stuff, Gay Days, and Utah School Break. I just think that the "slow" Oct. of the past is gone!

Hopefully, others can take advantage of this!

I agree - I think that more people are in the parks for October and that it is not a slow time anymore. However, I feel the mass bookings at the onsite hotels last year may have been in some part due to those extenuating circumstances, PIN offers that extended all through fall, etc. that I mentioned before. Look at what happened in December - normally the peak season with higher rates at the hotels (not the extra good PIN offers like there were for last October). Well the parks were certainly not empty but all 3 hotels had lots of availability before Christmas. I think a lot of folks just cannot afford to stay onsite at the regular rates, so it has to be a special deal to lure everyone in. You see how many people are staying offsite these days just from what they post here on the DIS. So even though Halloweentime may be drawing in more people to the parks, I don't know how well that $221 per night PPH rate is going to fly for October (and much higher, of course, for the non-AP people with no other means of a discount). I think people will just rebel and stay at HoJo's or something!! If they don't lower that rate for AP holders and offer a better one, Disney may be shooting themselves in the foot. I am a big 'onsite' advocate, but even I don't see the point in $221 or higher for the PPH in October. I could justify it more for December than I could for October and it would still be tough.
