I am entered....for the very first time....in the National Gingerbread Competition at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC.

I have decided to do a replica of the Riverboat at Walt Disney World as my "house". It is 4 decks tall, just like the actual boat.

This morning I made the final pattern, and carefully marked each piece so I would remember how many to cut. This afternoon I played with some practice pieces I had made and "glued" them together with royal icing. Tonite I baked all of the smaller pieces that make up the ship......40 in all, so far and that is not counting the larger "deck" pieces.

They will have to cool completely and dry for a few days before I put them together. I hope to have it completely constructed by next Sunday so I have an entire week just to decorate before the judging on November 17.

Tomorrow I am going to work on a few fondant figures that will go on the ship.

I promise to post pictures as soon as I begin putting it together, and of the final piece when it is done.

That sounds so fun! I love when you can incorporate the Disney magic into Christmas!

 So what figures are you going to do?????!!! It's the Libertybelle right?

HOW FUN!! How are you going to do the wheel and is it going to turn?? Will you have it on "water"?

This is really so exciting! I can't wait to see you on TV! I'm sure the Foodnetwork will cover this. GOOD LUCK!

Please post pictures of the finish product, I would love to see them, and even your work in progress. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Figures....Santa on the front of the main deck, sitting on a box, either playing the banjo or with a present in his lap.....not decided yet. Up on one of the other decks there will be three carolers and perhaps a reindeer or two. The title of the piece is "Santa's Showboat"

The paddlewheel is gingerbread with a candycane through the center of the circles. The two outer circles will have a pizzelle cookie attached to them and royal icing piping on the cookies to accent the designs in the cookies. The crosspieces on the wheel will be either cinnamon gum or fruit roll-up. It will sit in the water, which will be blue frosting. While the wheel will be capable of turning, it will not as the bottom will be flattened to sit more easily in the "water"

Now, as to me being on the food network.....they film this a year out, meaning the show you see televised this year will be the one they shot last year. If I make it on to the show, it will most likely not be shown until next year.

I am excited about being in the competition. It is a huge learning experience for me, as I have never built a competition worthy gingerbread house before. I hope I do well, but this year is about learning different techniques. We shall see.......

EXCITING!!

No Disney characters? Is that a licensing issue? I can't wait to see your pictures. I would love to do it but it seems like TONS of intricate work. Good luck again.

This is exciting...can hardly wait to see the pictures! You should post little updates so we can watch your progression---also good luck in the contest!

No, there will be no Disney characters on the boat. I do not want to take any chances in the licensing department. While I am using the WDW boat as an inspiration, and it will look a great deal like it, I do now want to include any specific reference to WDW in the piece at all. I can guarantee a hidden Mickey however!

I promise I will post updates....in picture form as soon as I begin to build it.

I hope you win! That sounds like a lot of hard work... looking forward to see pics of the finished winner!!! :goodvibes

How fun!!! I'd love to see pics of the process...like all of the little pieces you are making. Care to share? :goodvibes

Yes of course I will share! Lisa has the camera and she is away at her Dad's for the weekend. I will start taking a few pics when she gets home.
