my friend said don't cruise with disney

OK you disney cruisers.......please put my mind at ease.

DH and I and another couple are planning to go on a cruise in November. I am a HUGE disney fan. I go to the world twice a year....more if possible. I have been wanting to go on a disney cruise for sooooooo long. We have decided to leave the kids at home and have an adult only trip. but........my friend (who has sailed disney and carnival) told me that if you aren't taking kids then she wouldn't recomend the disney cruise. She says there is not enough stuff to do for adults. Somebody please help......is she right? should we go carnival or royal caribbean? my dh and our friends are not big disney fans........i am the only disney fanatic! Thanks a bunch.

I tried to convince the wife to sign up for a cruise for just us on our first cruise. We are going back with the whole family.

There are a lot of kids, and that is part of the draw, but there is a lot for adults to do as well. In addition, the adult only pool was practically deserted when we went on the cruise. There is an Adults only section on Castaway Cay, there are lots of more "adult" shows and other activities (the on board bars, later shows, etc.), and Disney is one of the NICEST cruise lines around - both the ships and the crew.

I would not even think twice about going on a Disney cruise with just the missus, but I still enjoy other Disney stuff as well. If you go to WDW as often as you say, you must also enjoy it yourself and should definitely have a good time on the cruise even without the kids.

I think there is alot for adults to do. Go to Barb and Tony's site at www.castawayclub.com and check out the navigators and see if there is enough to do that will keep you all happy.

I have done an "adults only" cruise on Disney. Actually, it was the DVC Members cruise last February. The staterooms are nicely appointed and very roomy. Love room service, lol. The shows, nightclubs and adult only pool and spa are wonderful, too. I vote a huge YES to an adult cruise without kiddos. Of course, I then have to take another one with my teens included as they will be jealous, LOL!

DH talked me into the DCL 3 day sea/4 day land for our honeymoon 5 years ago. At the time he was the disney fanatic and I wasn't at all. I was thinking how bored I would be, too many children running around, etc.

We had so much fun! We were exhausted from too much to do on our cruise and this was without booking any excursions. Also, they seem to separate very nicely the adult areas from the kids areas. I didn't think it was overly Disney (I think I was picturing being stuck on "It's A Small World" for 3 days).

5 years later, I am the Disney fanatic and we are finally going on a Western 7 Day Cruise to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The things I'll be looking forward to are:

Fantastic Restaurants & Food
New Places to Visit + we're going on excursions this time.
Meeting new people
The Shows
The Movie Theater - I'm hoping Pirates is still playing for the 9/13 Cruise
Subtle Disney Theming
Backstage Tours
The Spa - I'm going to talk DH into going with me
I should stop before I start listing everything on the DCL Magic.

I think your friend is confusing "kids" and "kids at heart"...

We are a childless couple who have done DCL 5 times and have a 6th booked for next year. There is plenty for adults to do and the adult only areas are fantastic. Yes there are a lot of kids on board, but they have so much to do that they aren't underfoot all the time.

Go and enjoy! I've sailed on a number of cruise lines and to me Disney is just as good or better than all of them!

I would follow Mjasp's advice and check out Barb and Tony's site. They are also childless and have done DCL 30+ times!

We took my parents last Oct. along with our 4 kids and DS(10)'s best friend. My Dad checked out all the airports at all the ports so he could get home if it was too much "small world" (I didn't know this until we got home!). They loved it so much they bought into DVC and have asked my DH and I to go this November on the Western without our 4 kids!

I take it this isn't a person who's going with you on the cruise. The big thing many don't like about DCL from an adult standpoint is no Casino. I haven't been yet on the cruise but have been reading this forum long enough that I'm confident you would enjoy it. Some do prefer though RCCL or others such as Holland American or Celebrity for adult trips.

I wouldn't be too disappointed if you have to chose another option. Do remember that many times the other options will be significantly cheaper, you could save that money separately and take DCL at a later date if it dosen't work out this time.

I have done adult cruises with Disney Cruise Line 6 times and was never at a loss for something to do. There are many adult-only activities and in the Personal Navigator these are flagged. Everyone has different expectations, but I think you will have a wonderful time!

I'm preparing for my fifth DCL cruise in August, and all of my previous times has been adult only traveling companions. Every time we have had a blast, and have never seemed to have childern under foot. I'm not a gambler, so no casino is not an issue. If you really get into doing the adult activities, you realy don't notice the childern. The big advantage that I've found, is that many of the adult areas seem to be less crowded (like the adult pool). Sail DCL, it's good clean fun.

LOL, I felt the opposite of your friend. After a cruise with my kids, I couldnt wait to go back alone to do all the adult stuff we didnt get to do. We only did a 3 day without the kids but we were not bored at all. Even DH who usually hates sitting in the sun(hes got to be moving at all times) enjoyed taking some time to just sit by the adult pool and have a frozen drink without the kids nagging. Between the spa, Palo, nightlife, adult pool, adult beach there was plenty to do with no kids around. And there was even more to do where kids were allowed, but it still interested us, such as the shows, we saw a movie, parasailing on CC, etc...

I've been on 2 other lines. My husb. & I went without the kids (blended family) for our honeymoon in 1998. It was his first cruise. Now, I can't get him to try another line. From what he's heard after talking with people, researching the interior/exterior of the other ships, & other things, he thinks that DCL is worth the extra $ that we pay & is afraid he won't have as good a time on another ship.
I agree that it's the gambling & the cheaper fares that entice people over to the other lines. We don't gamble or drink & we prefer the 'clean' comedy & shows of DCL. We have always found plenty to do & no kids underfoot - even on our honeymoon - which I was concerned about since it was our first DISNEY cruise. The adults-only areas are terrific. Also, the clean appearance, upkeep, decor & overall construction of the Magic & Wonder are so much nicer than most all of the other ships.

I think it's all in what you make it. When we took the kids in Oct. 2001, we still found the ship to be just as WONDERful. Our kids met us for dinner - a must - but other than that, they were off with their friends they made on the ship or at the clubs. My sil & bil took a DCL cruise last Oct. & didn't like it very much because they said there were "too many kids" & "not enough for the adults to do". HOWEVER, their daughter (8) refused to try the clubs & they spent the entire time with her @ the kids or family pool & never got to enjoy the adult activities.

Again - it's all in what you make of it! Go DCL & ENJOY!!!! (You will!)

I am thinking about DCL not having a casino. When you take into account how much you save by not gambling, DCL probably ends up being cheaper I haven't sailed yet, but looking forward to it like the kid at heart that I am

My mother is a casino nut, and she was able to satisfy her gambling urges at the ports of call on her Disney Cruise. On one of my DCL cruises, I made it over to Atlantis in Nassau and boy that will quench the gambling urge! It is a gambler's paradise, LOL! Of course, on board ship you can partake in the bingo if that is your thing, too.

You guys are the BEST!!!! My friend is a little ifffy if you know what i mean and NO she is not going with us.

I talked to DH about it and he said if Disney is the one you want then that is what we'll do ( I knew I married him for some reason). I think he is just going along with it so I won't bother him about all the deer hunting he's going to do when we come back.

I love Disney World Soooooo much so I know I will love the cruise also. We have 4 kids ( his, mine and ours) and we both teach school so kids around won't bother us one bit. We'll just have to seek out those adult areas. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for helping me decide. Now all I have to do is decide October or November? 3 day or 4 day? So many choices.

your friend is absolutely right.

we've gone on DCL twice, both times with our daughter (3 years old the first time, 6 this past time). whether our daughter comes or not on the next cruise, it won't be DCL - probably one of the mega-ships with RCL.
