My first dining review :-) The husband and I visited FL from March 21-26. We split our time between the beach and Disney. Husband loves the beach, so we spent a few wonderful days playing in the waves, walking in the sand and just relaxing. The rest of the time was spent at Disney. We stayed offsite, due to free rooms that are a perk of dh's job.

We are from NY and have lived in Lakeland briefly in the 90's. This isn't our first trip to Disney, but we ate a lot more onsite than we have in the past. I am a long time lurker and have enjoyed the dining reports for years.

As this was my first attempt at a review I tried to remember to get a picture of everything, but failed a few times. My favorite reviews are those that describe the food flavor in detail, so that shall be my goal. Thanks for reading along.

Day 1 began with a airport lunch. Dh had spent the prior week out of town for work, had flown in the night before and met me at the airport. I drove the long, boring three hours to the airport, dropping off the dog for boarding along the way,

Our flight left at 1:45, so we decided grab something to eat. Our home airport is tiny, so not many choices. We selected a cheese and fruit tray to split. The cheese was tasty with a fairly strong flavor. The pepper jack cheese was weaker than the standard grocery store fare, but passable. The grapes were pulp and juicy, with not a squishy one in the whole lot. I had the diet pepsi (a recurring theme) and dh had a V8, a yogurt and the gross jellybeans. The jellybeans ended up in my bag and he snacked on them as we flew.

We grabbed our rental car, bags and headed straight to DTD. The line to the exit was backed up quite a ways. We sat in traffic for about ten minutes not moving, so I suggested we go to Port Orleans and catch a boat. We asked at the gate to POFQ if we could just park and take the boat to DTD and she welcomed us warmly. I have heard that this may not always be the case.

Of course, I could not stop without trying snack that I had always drooled over in reviews. Beignets!
We ordered a set of thee to share. They were hollow inside, but the body itself was fairly dense, so they didn’t feel like just crispy edges. They were soft, hot and sweet. We pretty much devoured them in about two seconds flat.

We shared a ride with folks who had been celebrating by drinking around the world. They were quite the entainment and showed us many pictures of their day.

First stop was Goofy's.

I knew exactly what I came for and I was not messing around a bit. I ordered two custom creations. Forget the sharing, these were mine! OK, maybe I let dh have a bit over the next few days, but only a bit! The first was marshmallows with milk chocoloate, oreos and milk chocolate drizzle and the second was a Rice Krispies mickey with milk chocolate, M&M's and a milk chocoate drizzle.

The marshmallow treat was far better than I anticipated. The three marshmallows are on a cute mickey straw. The marshmallows were dipped and then rolled in oreos. The milk chocolate pools and gathers oreo crumbs making its footprint far larger than then just the marshmallows. It was cooled briefly in a refrigerator and then packaged in a take away bag. I had a bite after dinner and it was soft, with a very strong oreo flavor. If you have ever had an oreo bon bon, the flavor was rather similar. I kept this in the fridge for the next three days and each bite was as good as the last

The rice krispie treat was ok. I was surprised that they no longer dip the entire treat, but just one side. I knew that wasn’t going to work for me because I like to test the limits of my sugar rushes to the point of illness, lol. For an extra dollar and they stated that the full treat could be dipped. If you like the dips and candies it is well worth the extra dollar, as it adds so much size to the item. The mini m's were thick, thick thick on this sucker. As it was eaten, M&M's fell off with each bite and there was never an uncovered spot. Even under all that chocolate, the krispies stayed crisp, which was rather impressive. I cannot attest to the flavor the rice krispie, since it was difficult to taste, separate of the chocolate.

As much I looked forward to this, it was rather rich. It was my fault really, as the chocolate flavor overwhelmed the crispy treat with the addition of M&M's. In retrospect I would have used oreo in the place of M&Ms. Still, it made its way into our tummies over the next few days, and it kept away any chocolate cravings.

Oooooh, those beignets are amazing! I had them on our recent trip in March and I just loved them.. now I want some :)

Goofy's Candy Kitchen is a must for me.. I love the chocolate krispy treats with M&Ms!

Welcome to the dis!!!!! Those beignets look amazing. Would love to have some for breakfast right about now ; )

Following along :) I don't even like Rice Krispy Treats and those look good! Maybe they are just better covered in chocolate :P

We shopped for a bit and then decided we better eat. We knew we wanted to leave by 11:30pm, and we were getting close. For dinner we decided to eat at WP express.

I ordered a plain cheese pizza. Nothing exciting, as the traveling bugs my stomache a bit. Sadly, I was not impressed. This turned out to be least favorite meal of the entire trip. It looked so yummy. The sauce and crust were fine. The sauce was not overly sweet and the crust was soft and chewy. It all fell apart at the cheese. Cheese, oh cheese how could you let me down? You are one of my favorite things. The cheese was kind of tangy and must have been a cheese blend. It did not have a traditional plain, high quality mozzarella flavor. It was edible, but I would not order this again.

The husband had the bacon wrapped meatloaf. He liked the meatloaf and said that there was plenty of bacon. He did not eat the friend onions, so I snagged a few and was surprised that they had a small bit of a bite. I like the strings quite a bit and would order them as a side, if possible. The potatoes were pretty flavorless, dry and didn't add anything to the dish. Overall, we didn't love WPE and will try Earl of sandwich in its place next time.

Time to get “home” and finally collapse and wait for the sun to rise over the beach.

Two days later we returned to Orlando and started the day out at the MK. We didn't arrive until about 10:00am. We managed to hit all the rides that were "musts" by 12:30. Out longest wait was maybe 15 mins. We met a nice family during our longest wait and hey shared some funny tales about Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was a great way to start the day.

At 12:30 the husband declared he needed to eat "right now," as his hunger tends to go from 1 to 10 in a blink of an eye. He headed for popcorn because his brain stops working when the hunger strikes. I convinced him to make the trek to Cosmic Ray's because he said he was craving chicken.

Dh ordered the chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. He stated that the chicken was warm, moist and flavorful. I tried the potatoes and green beans. The potatoes were so much better than the ones at WPE. They were red-skinned mashed with the skins on and were seasoned with enough butter flavor, that they didn't need anything extra. The green beans were also really, really good for CS. They did not have a canned flavor, were well cooked and had a light flavoring. The flavoring was not butter, may have been seasoned oil. They also needed no additional flavor and were much better quality than I expected. I told dh that I could have happily had the beans and potatoes for lunch.

IMG_3564.jpg

I ordered the veggie burger with fries. My veggie burger was topped with onions, a tomatoes, lettuce and pickles The bun did not have the “crumbly” texture many have described in the past, so I am not sure if they changed the buns, or if I am not picky about buns, lol. The burger itself was not strong in flavor, which was fine because it allowed everything to combine together nicely. The burger was far better than I expected. The fries were acceptable, basic fries. Pretty much slightly thicker versions of standard fast food fries. I liked that the topping area included additional dip sauces, like bbq and honey mustard. Overall, the meal was of much better quality than anticipated.

A few more rides at the MK and we hopped over to Epcot. Let the snacking commence!

The husband was looking forward to bit of drinking around the world. He had a total of three very large beers. IIRC, he had one in Germany, one in England and Moosehead in Canada.

This was his first beer, which he paired with a pretzel. He was happy with all his beer selections, but neither of us were a fan of the pretzel. It was dry, boring and not worth the effort to chew, lol.
IMG_3584.jpg

While he chose the pretzel, I went for something sweet at Karamelle-Kuche.

IMG_3586.jpg

I am sounding decidedly picky, but I didn't care for this snack. I think I expect it to be warm. I don't know. There was nothing inherently wrong with the popcorn. It was sweet and crunchy and all things it should have been, it just wasn't for me. Apparently, the husband felt to went all with beer because it ended up here:

IMG_3593.jpg

I decided to give the whole snack item one more shot. I was a bit thirsty and love ice, so a Kaki-Gori sounded perfect. I selected the Cherry flavored one and it was so good. They didn't over sauce the ice, which kept it very refreshing and not too sweet. I enjoyed it very much and did not share a bit.

Nope, we are from NY. The couple we met were from OH and they were full of really great stories about their state.

I mentioned I forgot to take pictures a few times, right? Well all of these times happened in a pretty quick span. I'll review them quickly, just in case anyone is interested and then jump right into our last meal and snacks.

So the evening meal was at Gasperilla Grill at the GF. We wanted to check out the grounds and it was quick monorail ride. It was about 9:30 and I flaked on pictures here.

We split a cheese flatbread, which was much larger than I anticipated. It really could be split between two people for a snack. The taste was very similar to a flatbread made at home. It was followed by my first Mickey Bar. How this was my first Mickey Bar, I have no idea, but it was. It was really good! The chocolate was much thicker than I anticipated, which made me happy because I love, love, love chocolate. The chocolate, as thick and rich as it was, did not overwhelm the ice-cream, nor did I feel like I needed a drink after to keep the "thick mouth" feeling at bay.

We spent the next day at Typhoon Lagoon. Man, I wish I was there now, as my view out of my living room winnow is still snow, snow, snow. We purchased a 1/2 dozen of the mini doughnuts. That sounds like a lot, but the doughnuts are tiny and don't even fill the Chinese take out style box. they are served in from the shop. I know we took a picture, but it seems to have been deleted along the way. Sorry! The doughnuts we middy warm, but not very warm or hot. There were dipping sauces, but we opted just for the the sugar sprinkle. The sugar was regular sugar, not confectioners, but it managed to stick well enough. The doughnut itself was very soft and had the usual just fried flavor of sweet dough. I can't imagine eating these in July, August or September heat, but they were yummy in March.

Dh brought me a virgin strawberry daiquiri in late afternoon. I normally enjoy these, but this one was so sweet. It was also very smooth, which I get is common in mass production, but I love mine with discernible pieces of ice to cut the sweetness and this was not happening. Maybe it was just the heat, but it was not refreshing at all and I had maybe 1/10 of it before I gave up.

OK, now back to pictures. :teeth:'

When we were done swimming and floating, we headed to Raglan Road for a 5:30 (IIRC) reservation. I think they were taking walk-ps, but they were waiting, as there were three families who looked as though they had been in the entrance for awhile. When we reached the podium we requested a seat near the stage, if possible. The hostess said that it was, but we would just need to wait of the next table to clear. The hostess could not provide an estimated time, but that was fine with us, as we knew we would just sit at the bar until a spot opened. As it turned out, we had not even paid for our drinks at the bar, when our buzzer ordered us back to the podium. We had great seats and it was worth the wait. The dancers were wonderful and there was also a great band, drops of green, who we enjoyed very much!

IMG_1789_1.jpg

I ordered a diet pepsi and dh ordered some form of beer. This is where a great dining experience begins. I tend to drink ton in restaurants and will need two, if not three refills. Add in that we had been in the sun all day playing and that the Raglan's soda is served in a small glass, you get the picture. I figured I was fated to an evening of being in need of a refill most of time. Well, that never happened.

We had the best server I have ever had in my life. I wish I had thought to catch his name (he was so quick it was kinda like he was invisible) and mentioned it to his manager. Maybe I will shoot out an email anyway, highlighting our dates and what the guy like and our section. Anyway, before my glass could ever get empty, he would swoop in and refill. He was so on task, that dh wondered if he waited in the wings watching, so we started watching him. He did wait to the side of his section at all times and jump in often, but he also never made a pass without grabbing glasses or talking to a table. He was one intense dude. He was like puma waiting to strike, but none of that intensity carried over into interactions. He was just phenomenal and set the tone for the entire evening.

Along with our drinks, came the bread and Guinness reduction sauce. I cannot tell a lie, I was not impressed. I am famed for eating all of the bread service and being full by the time the meal is served, so this was very unusual for me. The bread was dense, dark and looked promising, but fell flat. I didn't find the bread to be any better than pre-sliced, bread aisle bread. Not even grocery store bakery aisle, as it lacked any strong flavor I normally associate with a dark bread. Dh liked the reduction. It has a honey flavor and I dislike honey, so it was not for me and I gave up after half a slice.

IMG_1776.jpg

Dh ordered a Kiss before Shrimp with a side of carrots. It seemed a pretty funny combination to me. He said the shrimp had a spice that built on itself and he liked it very much. The side of carrots was huge! We joked that 25 carrots had to die to make this dish. Dh encouraged me to try them. I assumed they were sweetened carrots, which is not my thing but I decided to give them a shot. Well surprise, dh encouraged me for a reason and didn't give away the surprise, the sauce was vinegar based! Yum. The carrots were cut into such large pieces that the sauce, which was not just vinegar, did not overwhelm their natural flavor. They were cooked well and still had a tiny bit of bite, but didn't land in either the mushy or raw side of things. Sup
IMG_1782.jpg
er yummy.

IMG_1781.jpg

My turn! I ordered the portobello beauty with fries. This was delicious. It had dubliners cheese, tomato chutney and zucchini. I removed the lone slice of zucchini without disturbing the sandwich at all. This sandwich is all about the combo of flavors, not the individual components. The bread was soft, warm and unassuming. Dubliner cheese was new to me and it had a nice strong favor. It doesn't lean all the way to a sharp cheddar, but has that hint. It didn't overwhelm the sandwich at all and was paired perfectly with the tomato chutney. The chutney provided just a hint of of needed sweetness and it really made the dish for me.

The fries were fries. Nothing special and i wish I had chosen different side, but they served their purpose and were improved with the malt vinegar provided on the tables.

IMG_1779.jpg

Well a trip here would not have been complete without trying Ger's Bread and Butter Pudding. This was more a dish for dh, as I pretty much never order a dessert that isn't straight chocolate.

I spread the bread across the plate and poured on the sauces. You can see the steam coming off of the dessert in the second picture it was so warm. The pudding was soft like little pillows of sweetness. The pudding had some sort of sweet fruit (raisins maybe) which i avoided, which was easy to do and still allowed me to enjoy the dessert. The sauces were both excellent. The first tasted of carmel and maple (brown sugar maybe) and the second was lovely, sweet cutting cream. As I snacked on this dessert I tried to think what I would relate it to most and I landed on a warm, thick waffles with light maple syrup and cream. I liked it very much, as did dh.

All in all raglan road was great. The entertainment was wonderful, the food was excellent and we would return again, no questions asked. In fact, dh asked why we hadn't come each night of the trip, lol.

Here it is, the final hours at WDW. We wandered around, picked up a few gifts for friends and dh grabbed a couple of snacks from goofy's
IMG_3648.jpg

and a s'more bar. I tried the bar because, CHOCOLATE, declared it acceptable but kind of hard.

IMG_1792_1.jpg

I didn't care much about grabbing anything in Goofy's (I should have gone back later and that is just occurring to me now) but that was because I had a bucket list dessert waiting. Since I began reading a DIS many years ago, I have always been intrigued by the Ghirardelli Gold Rush, which is a vanilla, chocolate and peanut butter sundae. Friendly's has a similar dish, but I haven't had one in years. I just wanted this over indulgent, super rich dessert. My plans were to have all chocolate cream in place of the vanilla. I was ready. I had even been here days earlier and waited to have this as my final night prize. I waited in a very long line and it was finally my turn, I'm ready podium lady! But, then the violin's began to play and the world turned dark and all the mickeys began to cry. Ghirardelli's no longer serves peanut better and the Gold Rush was taken off the menu "3-4 days ago" according the the dasher of my dreams. If only I had gone the first night!

I ordered a milkshake and got some popcorn for dh and I to share. Of course, I bought the souvenir bucket in which to catch my tears, lol. The milkshake was rich and fine and whatever, It was not any better than any I get home. I should have gone back to Goofy's instead.

IMG_1794.jpg

And so ends my WDW food. Thanks for chugging long with me and I hope my very unprofessional taste explanations helped someone a bit. :earsgirl::earsboy::disrocks:

Awesome review!!!! I love love love the mickey heads with m m s !!!!! I get one every trip and always bring 2 home for my nephews. They are delish!

I am so sad to hear that the Gold Rush is gone!! I swear I read that somewhere a few days ago and I just ignored it because I thought no way would it be true.:sad::sad: I've never had it but I've had my eye on it. So disappointing! And we had plans to go to Ghirardelli after Raglan Road on our last trip, but we never made it, haha.

I'm glad you enjoyed Raglan Road. Your entree sounds soooo good! We didn't have a great experience there earlier last month and I definitely ordered poorly (I had the schnitzel). The portobello looked good, I should've gone with that. And that bread pudding.. mmmmm! I definitely agree w/ you on the bread that they give you with the reduction - nothing amazing.

I haven't eaten at Cosmic Rays in years, but the meal your DH had looks like something my fiance would really like. Good to hear that the food is good there!!

I love love love the Karamell Kuche popcorn! I'm slightly obsessed. Sorry you didn't care for it as much. :)

Great reviews, thank you for sharing!!

Sorry to hear the Gold Rush is gone. Their Brownie Sundae is to die for though!!!! Warm gooey brownie with vanilla ice cream and drenched in melted Ghirardelli fudge sauce! Try that one next time you go!

thank you so much for your great reviews and photos...I love to see other peoples food..hahaha....I too get the Cosmic rays half chicken and love it each time...it is a good alternative for those who dont want burgers or chicken fingers for a change......thanks again

Thanks for all your reviews. Sorry WPE wasn't better. Haven't been there in years (avoiding the DTD mess) but I recall the pizza being pretty good in the past. Not as good as Via Napoli, but solid. Hopefully yours was an anomaly.

That Cosmic Rays chicken looks delicious.

Ragland Road sounds like a great time. And what amazing service. Glad you enjoyed
