My first dining review! Mmmmm - updated 1/26 with Tutto Italia

trust me......it is soooooo hard to please a large group of people.....we have been to Disney with as little as four and as many as 11 ......You did good I think to go to a restauarant that had enough to please the crowds.....
looking forward to more
Thanks for taking the time

yeah i also feel the same its really difficult to satisfy everyone when you are out of town.
You did a excellent job Shleedogg.

Great job on the reviews so far. Your daughter is down right adorable!

I apologize for the delay! DD has kept me very occupied for the last few days. Thank you all for your kind words about her and my reviews!

On to more food!

Aaah, the day after the marathon. Poor DH was feeling pretty rough but didn't want to waste a day at Disney so he joined us at Magic Kingdom. DH and I had skipped breakfast that morning and so around noon we were starving. While I found a table DH took care of the food. He returned with a plain burger with fries and a sprite for him and a cheeseburger with fries and probably a rootbeer (although I'm not positive) for me. He was very proud of himself that he remembered to get me ketchup. At any normal fast food place I would have been thrilled that he remembered. However, this was no normal fast food place,e this was Pecos Bills, home of the delicious melted processed cheese goo. Off I went to get myself some cheese goo deliciousness as well as some lettuce for my burger. This is DH's favorite CS place in MK, so he was very happy with his burger and inhaled it. I'm not sure if that was because it was delicious or because he was starving, lol. He finished it and the fries and held DD so I could eat my burger. I really don't remember what the burger tasted like, I know I enjoyed it, but all I can remember was the delicious cheese. It was by far the highlight of the meal.

I called about a month after the 180 day window opened and was still able to get a pretty decent ADR for Le Cellier for 5:20pm. We had to make it for two four top tables. It was possible we wouldn't be seated together. We had no need for worry, we were all seated together. When we got there the place was practically empty. I think that there would have been no problem getting a walk up before 5, by the time we left though they were packed.

Our waitress came over and explained the menu, the chefs selection which she really pushed and what we could have on the DDP. She forgot to mention that we could have smoothies or milkshakes, luckily DH asked. FIL and MIL ordered unsweetened iced tea, Niece24 and Niece14 ordered coke, DH a chocolate milkshake and I got a vanilla one.

I didn't think they were as good as 50s PTC, but they were still very good and a nice change from all the pop we were drinking that week.

I had warned DH that this was the one place where I would be ordering an appetizer that week. I had to try the cheddar cheese soup! Everyone except DH ordered a bowl. This was another instance where our waitress really pushed the chef's selection to MIL and Niece 24 who each ordered the soup and an entree that were in the special menu however, Niece really wanted smores for dessert, not on the menu and MIL wanted mashed potatoes instead of the ones that came w/ her dinner so both once again turned down our waitress. I started to wonder if they earn a commission on it, lol.

Ok, back to the soup. Don't flame, but I didn't love it. I expected more of a cheese flavor. It looked cheesy, but really didn't really taste like it. I tasted something that gave it a bit of a kick, maybe the beer? I really hate the taste of beer, so maybe that was why I didn't like it. Either way I was very sad, I had expected to love it. I was the only person who didn't like it though, everyone else gobbled it up. FIL especially loved it, he finished off MIL's. This man eats, but you'd never know it, I don't know where it goes. Kinda like DH I guess.

Mmmm the bread. I really wonder why they don't give you more pretzel bread.. Everyone wants that one but they only gave us a couple sticks. Being polite, I grabbed a multi-grain. It was pretty good, but I really wanted the good stuff. DH looked completely crestfallen when I asked for a bite of his pretzel bread, lol. He had two all to himself. This I think was the big appeal of Le Cellier to him.

Ok, entrees:

FIL: Prime rib, med-rare and still moo-ing (EW!) with roasted yukon potatoes. He cleaned his plate and at the end of dinner announced that I was 3/3 for restaurant choices.

n44201769_32273496_2228.jpg

MIL: Prime rib, well done with cream cheese mashed potatoes. This was a big piece of meat, she ate about half of it and all her potatoes. She enjoyed it even though she's not a huge red meat eater. She would have preferred a chicken dish, but like me, the new chicken dish didn't sound too appetizing to her either. We both would have preferred the old mustard chicken.

n44201769_32273497_2518.jpg

Niece24: Chicken Coq au Vin - braised in red wine with root vegetables and potatoes. I don't think she really liked this. I think she thought it was just ok. She ate one of the pieces of chicken and some of the vegetables.

n44201769_32273498_2797.jpg

Niece14 and I: Filet Mignon, plain, med-well with mashed potatoes instead of risotto. This was my first steak ever. I don't think I'm the person to review steak because I thought it was ok. It tasted good, but I couldn't get over the texture. DH told me it's because I should have ordered it med, but I couldn't eat it if it was still oozing blood. Overall, it was ok, but nothing I'll ever feel the need to order again. The mashed potatoes were delicious though! I'm sorry you can't see the potatoes in this pic, they were underneath the steak.

n44201769_32273499_3079.jpg

DH: Filet Mignon, also plain, but med with mashed potatoes. He said it was ok. I think he would have enjoyed it more had he not been feeling nauseous. He ate all but a couple of bites of his steak, about half of the potatoes and declined finishing my steak.

Aaah, dessert! I had been looking forward to trying the smores here, they looked delectable and so fun!

FIL: Apple-Rhubarb Crumble - served with Maple Granola Ice Cream. He really liked this. I didn't get much feedback other than good or bad for the whole trip, lol. I gauged his like or dislike on whether or not he finished something.

n44201769_32273500_3354.jpg

MIL: Maple Creme Brulee. She loves creme brulee but was a little apprehensive about the maple part of it. She decided to be adventurous and it paid off, she loved it!

n44201769_32273501_3641.jpg

Niece24, Niece14, and I: Smores! I was so excited to try these. They seemed very fun, and delicious, especially since they came with ice cream, I thought that was a nice twist. I wish these came with instructions. None of us had any idea how to eat them. Once I finally managed to disassemble them I tried to take a bite of the bottom sandwich part with my spoon. Impossible. It was frozen solid. Trying to take a bite of the bottom sandwich piece crushed the ice cream because you had to press so hard and made it ooze out onto the plate. The worst part about that was that it made it impossible to get a bite that didn't have the syrup on the bottom of the plate on it. That syrup looks very cool but tastes disgusting. It's so sicky sweet and is impossible to not taste. It ruined the whole dessert. I think they freeze the bottom 3 layers together. If they made each one to order without freezing it I think it would be easier to eat although it would take longer thereby decreasing table turn around time. I tried one marshmallow as my last bite. Wrong thing to do. I think I was on sweet overload from the syrup and this sent me over the edge. I started feeling a little sick. 15 min after we left it hit in full force. I'll spare you the details but it wasn't pretty. Was it the steak? Was it the overly sweet dessert? We'll never know. The dessert looks cool though!

n44201769_32273502_3932.jpg

DH: Chocolate on chocolate whiskey cake to go. This was another time where DH didn't want dessert and so I ordered it for him. I had planned to take it back to the room and eat it later or the next day. By the time we got off the bus at our resort I was feeling so sick that I didn't want to be anywhere near it so I threw it out. :( The next day I really wished I hadn't done that, I at least had wanted to sample it. Oh well, next time!

Overall I think most of us liked Le Cellier. It was fun to try and I'm glad I did or I would have always wondered about it. I don't think I'll ever feel the need to go back though. Not because the food was bad but just because it's not my taste. Everyone else seemed to really like it though.

Up next, Pizzafari and Tutto Italia. Hopefully later today! Thanks for reading so far!

We started this morning without breakfast again and headed straight to Animal Kingdom. After getting on our top 3 rides and getting more fastpasses for Expedition Everest, DH and I were starving. There was a pretzel stand close by so we each used a snack credit. Bummer, there was no cheese at this location. Other than that, it was delicious as far as soft pretzels go.

We headed over to Dinoland and rode Dinosaur, headed back to Everest and rode that 2 more times w/ the help of fastpasses and childswap. AK didn't have too many food options that appealed to DH as he likes his food pretty plain and standard, so we hit up Pizzafari. It was the only really safe option.

DH: Pepperoni pizza, pop, chocolate cake and a side of breadsticks. He ate the whole pizza. It was standard Disney pizza; not great but edible. The cake was the same chocolate cake he got elsewhere in Disney, ok but he wasn't a fan of the frosting, very thick. He ate a ton of breadsticks, he seemed to really enjoy them.

Me: Cheese pizza, pop, frozen strawberry lemonade. My thoughts on the pizza were the same as DH's. The breadsticks were ok, definitely not the best I've ever had. The frozen lemonade was huge! I was still pretty wet from Kali River Rapids and the temp had gone down in the 60s, not to mention it was raining so I wasn't really in the mood for it. It was good, just way too much.

The service here was great and really prompt considering the size of the lines.

MIL and FIL decided that they wanted to go back to the room and warm up, the rest of us were fine so decided to go early to Epcot and do some rides there and meet up w/ the ILs later. Off to Epcot we went, rode some rides until DD woke up and wanted to eat. I headed over to the baby center and DH went with the nieces to ride the two rides in Mexico and Norway and then they came to pick me up. At the same time the ILs stopped by to pick up the girls to go to Biergarten. The menu didn't sound very good to DH and me so we opted to split up that night.

FIL LOVED Biergarten last March and was very excited to eat there. He said it wasn't anywhere near as good this time. He didn't go into detail but just said the quality had gone down. Neither of the nieces really liked it. They found some stuff to eat, but weren't very impressed.

After DD was done eating, DH and I took a leisurely walk around the world. I realized that I had never been to Norway before. For some reason I always walked by it. We couldn't do the ride because it was just us w/ DD but we looked around. Then I remembered SCHOOL BREAD! I had to try it. It was only $1.99, so I didn't want to use a snack credit, I just paid oop.

Sorry about the bites :) I couldn't wait to try it, then I couldn't wait to have a second (and possibly third and fourth :) ) bite before I remembered to take a pic. OMG it's amazing! I was a bit worried after hearing about caramel frosting. It is not caramel, it's actually white still, but you can't tell from the pic. The only thing light brown in color is the coconut which I believe is toasted. This gets a huge thumbs up from me, I loved it. I intended to go get another one on our last night, but alas it wasn't to be :(

By the time DH and I walked to Italy it was a little after 5pm. Our ADRs weren't until 8. DH was hungry, I wasn't but I didn't really want to wait that long. I ran in and checked to see if we could get in earlier and the hostess said she could seat us right away, so in we went. Let me say that this was the meal I was most looking forward to of the trip. I love Italian food and had read so many good reviews. Unfortunately for us it didn't live up to the hype.

Our server Sara came over to greet us. She was very curt. Not at all friendly but not really rude either. Basically it just wasn't the service we had gotten at other restaurants and that I had come to expect from Disney. Our drinks were brought out along with bread and vegetables. All of the bread was great and I enjoyed the olive oil. Then the butter came out. OMG it was amazing. It was the best part of the meal by far! It actually tasted like it might have been ricotta cheese by the texture, I'm not sure though. Either way though it was delicious. It was creamy and had a nice basil flavor to it. The thin, crispy bread in the back of the basket was very good, like a tortilla, but a bit denser.

Onto dinner

DH: Spaghetti - veal meatballs and pomodoro sauce. DH really didn't like this dish and didn't eat much of it. He said the sauce was really sweet and the meatballs were just ok. He's used to my sauce which I think is more acidic. He said he prefers the spaghetti and meatballs at Olive Garden, which isn't saying much, lol.

n44201769_32273510_6345.jpg

Me: Panzotti-ricotta cheese filled ravioli with some sort of cream sauce and zucchini. It's not on any menus I can find online. I also did not enjoy my dish. It didn't have much flavor. The cream sauce lacked any real seasoning. It was also a very rich and heavy dish, I would have expected the zucchini to balance that and add a little freshness to the dish. Unfortunately they were very small diced pieces of zucchini that you couldn't even taste. In total, I think there might have been 2 or 3 small slices of zucchini that had been diced in the dish.

n44201769_32273509_6032.jpg

My other problem was that our food was brought out in less than 5 min after we ordered, not kidding. It is obviously not made fresh to order.

Dessert.

DH: Cannoli to go. He didn't want dessert and I LOVE cannolis so I figured I'd eat it later if I got hungry.

Me: Cannoli - crisp pastry filled with sweet ricotta, chocolate and candied orange. There was a misunderstanding by me. I thought that the candied orange would be at the ends of the cannoli, that it would be dipped in it like cannolis around here are dipped in chocolate chips. I was wrong. The candied oranges were throughout the filling. I don't like oranges very much. I don't know if I liked them if I would have enjoyed it more, but they just felt very out of place to me. I guess I'm a purist with my cannolis. Needless to say the other cannoli went in the trash.

n44201769_32273511_6651.jpg

We felt VERY rushed here which I didn't like. Our waitress hovered behind our table. Since this was the one time where they didn't automatically add tip we went back and forth about how much to leave. In the end we decided on $15 which was above 20%. The only reason we did this was because we wanted to leave cash and it was the easiest amount since DH had no singles. DH put it on the table and our waitress saw it when she went to grab the check to run our card. Her manner immediately changed and she gave us a very gracious farewell.

If we're on the DDP again, we might give it a second try but never if we were paying oop. It is extremely overpriced. Agreeing w/ DH, I would rather eat at the Olive Garden. This was the worst meal of our trip which was a big disappointment to me because I really thought I would love it. As far as Italian food goes at Disney, we thought Mama Melrose was far superior.

I'm glad we were on the DDP though and that we did try it. The restaurant is beautiful inside although a bit loud. They sure do cram a lot of tables in there.

Up next, Chef Mickey breakfast and 50's PTC, all in all a much better day!

I just finished reading your reviews and I really love it. Yummy pics you got. It looks you really had a great time. Looking forward for the next review. :)

Have a nice day. :)
