Lisa and I joined the YMCA during a special promotion that basically waived the admission fee...saved us $96. We paid based on the day we joined....we joined on Jan 4, so we paid $4.

We went for a tour yesterday and signed up for 6 sessions each with a fitness coach. Today we went swimming and I did 2 trips up the climbing wall. Lisa did 10 laps and I did 8 laps of the pool. The climbing wall was great and the YMCA staff member who was doing the belay work was great to work with and gave all sorts of hints on how to scale the wall. It was such a thrill when I made it to the top twice on my first day of climbing. All in all we were very satisfied with our first trip to the Y.

Anybody else starting a new fitness regimen? If so, how is it going for you?

We just started (Jan 2nd) at a new family fitness center in our community. It's great! Pools, track, basketball courts, gym, and a water park for the kids. We have been three times as a family. My DH and DS play ball while I walk the track. I went twice by myself. I just have to get someone to explain all that equipment to me...:confused3

Me too! All that equipment intimidates me to no end. I have no idea where to start. That is why I am looking forward to the sessions with the fitness counselor. They do nutritional analysis, fitness coaching and a detailed explanation of all the equipment. I am really looking forward to it all.

I am also going to sign up for swimming lessons. I can swim, but want to know how to do it better. They have classes for adults in a variety of ability levels and I know it will do me some good.

Your center with the water park sounds fantastic. Our Y has a great pool, with an inflatable slide for the kids....pretty cool, but no water park.

Keep me posted on your progress.

Dh and I joined Gold's Gym in October. I've been going about 3 times per week doint 20-30 minutes of cardio- I like the eliptical machines. Then I spend about 45 minutes on the various weight machines and free weights. I LOVE using weights. Every week or so I am able to increase the weights I'm using, so I know I'm getting stronger. I alternate each time I go- upper body-arms, back, shoulders, then the next time I do legs, butt, abs. It's a good feeling.

I joined the gym in August and have been faithfully going 3-5 time per week, doing cardio (elliptical/treadmill) for 40-45 minutes and weight training for about an additional half hour.

I've been watching what I'm eating, but not rigidly. Sadly, I've only managed to lose about 8 pounds in all that time. I'll admit I'm getting discouraged.

Did you get yourself clean?

Have a good meal?

Hang out with all the boys?

Did you get yourself clean?

Yes! Both before and after the workout, I had to get rid of all that chlorine

Have a good meal?

Yes, leftover prime rib, lots of broccoli, and a small helping of mashed potatoes. An apple for dessert.

Hang out with all the boys?[/QUOTE]

Nope! No boys at our house.
