DD Laura goes to one class a day at school. I always walk her to class (she walks using her walker) and I'm at the door to pick her up when its time to go home. In fact anywhere she walks I'm right by her side 99% of the time just in case anything happens.

Today after we entered the building we realized we had left a paper she needed in the car. I told her to keep walking towards class because she goes really slow and I'd run get it.

When I came back in the building I could see her walking slowly down the hall with the walker, one slow step at a time. I guess I don't usually have that visual perspective because I'm always by her side but it just broke my heart. I kept it together till I got her in class but I couldn't get back to the car fast enough. I sat there and bawled before I could drive home. Even now typing this the tears are rolling down my face. I know we have come a long way but I guess I mourn what we have lost and grieve for what she is having to endure. But I'm so proud of her for being so tough and strong.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling about this. I'm sure that Laura will continue to progress and improve and hopefully she won't need the walker forever.

But if she does? You still have her and you are so blessed to have her. I shudder when I think that we almost lost her :( She is a brave soul and she will make the most of any situation, I'm convinced of that. Hang in there sweetie. I'm sorry you felt sad today.

A tear here also, Liz. :( {{Hugs}} for a proud, loving mom of a brave, determined young girl.

My son is developmentally deleyed and has ADHD and OCD. Since preschool I have walked him to his class, and was there at the door to pick him up i was the only mom. then in first grade we would get there a few minutes early so he can play with friends before school we would wait there at watch him just incase. Last year he wanted to ride the bus (scary though for mom and dad) would he get off the bus at the right school, and then he has to change buses, OH NO:eek: :eek: Come to find out there are two adults on the bus on driver and on moniter, who helps out the kids. This year he is in third grade, and he takes the bus and now he walks himself 30 feet to the bus stop. I wont let him go until I see the bus and he has to walk. I still get him off the bus cause his little brother rides then too. When I saw him walking to the bus i was so proud and I was crying.

(((((((((HUGS))))))))) to you and your Dear Family for all that you have been and are going through.....Your DD is one amazing young lady to put up such a fight.
It is indeed such a humbling feeling watching our children struggle with what life lays before them.

Take care and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

*HUGS* to you, Liz. My Mom has definitely been in your shoes. At times, I've been there to offer comfort to her. I think you and your DD are both very brave and wonderful....:D

Liz, I have followed your story, but was unable to post because quite honestly it was overwhelming for me. I am in awe of you and your family. I have a feeling that your daughter is going to one day do something so amazing and incredible, something that will benefit the human race, and she will have have done it one small step at a time. She and you are my heros.

Well, you managed to bring a few tears to my eyes too.

Laura sounds like a very strong little girl. She's lucky to have you and you're very lucky to have her.:)

{{{hugs}}} to Laura and you. I can only imagine what you felt when you saw her from a distance. Laura has made a lot of progress and is quite a fighter.

I'm so impressed that after all that she went through, she is now going to school. Just amazing! Way to go Laura!

Take care!

:D

Liz;
I would have been there right with you crying. I get VERY emotional when it comes down to children and elderly people.
But what a long way she has come , she has an amazing determination.
Like someone once said, don't focus on what you can't do , focus on what you CAN do. One day at a time. {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

Laura is an amazing kid, and you are an amazing Mom. I have tears in my eyes reading your post.

Awwww, I understand why you would have all of those emotions :( :) I'm so glad to hear that she's back in school. That's really great! Like snoopy said, she is an amazing little girl and you are an amazing mother. {{{{Hugs}}}}

to Laura!!!!!

Liz,
You have been sooooo strong for all these months. I have often wondered how you did it. Weeks upon end, you were at the hospital with Laura, geting little, if any, rest.

Laura is a brave and determined young lady and I would venture to say that she gets those qualities from you!

I love the picture, btw, and think of you all often!
Pam

Liz, thats all it takes, just one step at a time---that is what is important--it does not matter how you get or when you get there, but just that you have the fortitude to take that step and do it!!!!! a trait your dd seems to have in multitudes

So reflect on the positive, she tooks those steps, confident, knowing she could get to where she needed to go, confident to go it alone when she needed to, and confident enought to know in her heart that her mom YOU were still there walking beside her---it seems as I have followed your story that you and your dd have a special bond----she knows this---what a gift you have given her

So go have a nice weekend---give that little one a squeeze from all the people who keep a special soul like hers in our thoughts, and I in turn will be sure to give my 3 little souls (dd-13, ds-12 and dd-9), a big hug tonigt too.
