hi everyone,

My son is starting a new school on monday.. It is a great school with a lot of wonderful programs for him to join.

But now that is happening on monday I am so nervous about him being "the new kid" he has been at his old school for 3 years..but we are moving and it is time to move on..

any ideas would be great!!

Have him wear the danicing Banana costume I'm sure he'll fit right in :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously though Kelly
Darren will be fine
he's a great kid and I am sure he'll have no trouble making friends

tell him good luck from me :teeth:

Give it a couple of days and see how things go.

He might not have any problems at all. The kids might welcome him with open arms.

You might want to talk to the teacher if you are afraid he won't make friends. Maybe they can help him fit in.

i spoke to the teacher last night and she said that most of the kids would be very welcoming to him 95% or more...

she said that they would have some kids "adopt" him so he can have someone to sit with a lunch... walk in the hall with and all that good stuff!!

I have a meeting with the new teacher on monday at 915 while his class is at gym!!

That sounds like a wonderful school. If 95% of the kids would be welcoming, that is a huge pool for him to make friends from. Is he involved in any activities? Maybe he could join groups or teams that share his interest?

That's a good idea! That way he already has something in common with some of the other kids. He's a great kid I doubt he'll have any problems!

My boys changed schools mid-year last year when we moved. The first day, my youngest (7at the time) jumped right in. My oldest (9) was pretty nervous the first day - different personality. Both of the boys classmates were very friendly and welcoming. I had to learn to sit back and let new friendships come about naturally - once I realized my concern for my kids making new friends was making my oldest feel pressured (bad mom moment) everything went very smoothly. Hope all goes well for your son.
***We had toured the school before the first day, but it's a pretty big school. A lot of my older son's anxiety came from a fear of getting lost in the hallways and being embarrassed. Maybe draw a map if that's an issue?

:grouphug: This will be harder on you than it is on your son. My boys changed schools mid-year at 7 & 9. They didn't have any troubles. They made new friends & ended up liking the new school much better than the old. My oldest just transitioned to Middle School this year. They had mix-up day this week. As they entered the cafeteria each student was given a card, assigning them a lunch table in an effort to "meet new people". Even though they were his regular lunch buddies, DS knew all of the boys at his mix-up table. (He's not an outgoing kid).
Best of luck to your son. The teacher sounds wonderful & on top of the situation.

My dd had to start a new school at the end of October when she was in the 8th grade (school starts the first of August here). I was so worried but actually being the 'new' kid made her kind of popular for a while. That was great because she got to meet a lot of people and make several friends before the new wore off. I think it worked out better for her than if she had started at the first of the year with everyone else.

That will come in time. Give him another day and he will know them all.
