One of my Mini Dauchunds was bit by a brown recluse spider....2 weeks ago I noticed a red bump but didnt think anything of it, Well Thursday when i woke up she had a "slit" that was oozing. So I took her to the vet, I was told it was a spider bite and to put antibiotic creme on it. Well today it had got worse , not better , and was now the size of a silver dollar. So back to the vet we go and now shes on oral antibiotics and topical. She is tiny (4 1/2 pds) so I worry this may end up killing her...anyone else had this happen? :sad2:

I don't have any answers for you but just wanted to send you some hugs and pixie dust for you and your little furbaby. I hope she gets better soon. :grouphug: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I wish I could give you some comforting advice, but I don't have any. I just wanted to wish you and your dog the best :grouphug: I'm sending lots of healing PD your way :wizard: :wizard: Please keep us updated on how your dog is doing.

One of my dogs was bitten last year. It was pretty ugly, on her back. :( She had almost 3 weeks of meds and this topical powder that gave her some pain relief. I know she was miserable (I have been bitten too) but she was ok in the end. I can't remember the name of the powder (I can look) but you could definitely tell it helped w/ the pain.

:wizard: Hope things are better soon.

our sitter's husband lost a portion of his foot to one of these a couple years back. he's a firefighter and was working in a grassy field-did'nt feel a thing until later when his ankle started bothering him (thought maybe he twisted it). he's a BIG GUY-very physicaly fit. within a week his leg had swelled to the point the skin was starting to split! ended up in surgery and lost part of his instep on one foot.

the wierd thing is we don't live in a part of the country they are common to-the doctors finaly figured that it must have come in on a shipment that docked adjacent to the fields our friend was working in.

your pup is lucky to have gotten a timely diagnosis-with the antibiotics being given before much damage has occured there is a pretty good full recovery rate.

(this is why we decided to make sure our pest company now comes INSIDE more often-don't want to take any chance with our litte 2 legged "pets").

That's awful, poor thing! I hope the pup recovers fully! :grouphug:

We went back to the vet today for a checkup and he said that once this last piece of dead skin came off (its very hard, like a scab) that it should start healing. She is doing great actually the vet said she is doing much better and its healing much faster than expected!!!!
