My Dog Killed A Rat

When we lived out in the country we used to get mice in the house all the time, no rats thank goodness.

DH used to think he filled in every nook and cranny every fall and winter but every year they got in. The scratching in the walls and ceiling are a familiar sound to me.

One time, a mouse came down our chimney into our fireplace (not lit) and squeezed through the little tiny tiny opening between our glass doors on the fireplace and was running around our family room.

I'm so glad we moved.

That dog would be queen for a day in my house! :thumbsup2

Not the same thing, but a week or so ago, I was coming home from work and my daughter called to say there was a bat in the house. :scared1: Well, bats are just a step below snakes in my fear factor. My son was with me, so I was telling him, "You've got to kill it! OMG!"

Turned out it was a bird. And then I was going, "No! Don't kill it!!! You've got to rescue it!" :lmao: And he did, good boy. :worship:

I still don't know how a bird got in the house. :confused3

Yea for the dog!!!:yay:

We just killed a mouse in our garage a few days ago.:scared: I knew they would be coming in.

There is a field near us and when they harvested it, I said here come the mice. Sure enough, cold snap hits and we saw a mouse in the garage.

Got him though and we have a trap set for any other wanderers.

One morning my mom woke up with a MOLE on her pillow next to her head. Our dog had gotten it and I guess had it in the house and then brought it up to bed in the middle of the night.

I would have died.

My terriers always bring in moles they've killed. They are so proud of themselves. Of course, they lay them out on the dining room rug, not my pillow :scared1:

 Time to move!

But not to the city- they have rats there too! Come to the mountains- no rats- mountain lions yes- rats no.

This story reminds me of how one year we heard a scratching in an outside cubby that was attached to the house. I was alone with all 6 of the kids and I was totally freaked out, so I called the police. Um yeah..bad idea on my part. It was a possum..as big as a dog. I swear to you it was the biggest biggest thing I had ever seen. The one policeman slammed the door shut and said Welcome to North Carolina. I did feel really stupid. I couldn't sleep the whole night. The next morning I opened that door and left it open before I went to work hoping it would leave. I think it did.

I would have freaked out too. The other thing I discovered was I was also a city girl. Coming from right outside the DC area we aren't really seeing a whole lot of wildlife. Since moving here I have seen bears, owls and stuff. Not in cages at the zoo either. I am way not into mice and snakes and of course they are in abundance here!

Possums are creepy, aren't they???

Several years ago, I went to take the trash out and saw this mass of gray fur in the bottom of my trash can. I had it in my head that the neighbor's cat died and they put it there (they were weird like that), so I called my dad to come take care of it. Turns out, it was a possum. :lmao: I still don't know how it got in the trash can without knocking it over. The can was empty. :confused3

Just an update: We found the hole in the bedroom closet where the "culprit" made his entry! It's been filled (Phew) Hopefully this will keep any future rats from the bedroom/house.

On a side note, the wire-haired terrier mix...(who DID just have a fatty tumor removed) stayed on the bed looking at the dead rat...."Hmmmm well LOOK at that!":lmao: He wanted NO part of that killing:rotfl:

I have seen both rats and mice around where I grew up. But there are a lot of coyotes and foxes in that area and they kill a lot of the vermin which is a big help to people.
